While former his former senior teammates are all now playing overseas, ex-Gator forward Casey Prather has started his pro basketball career on American soil.
After being cut by the Phoenix Suns in training camp, Prather is playing in the NBA Development League with the Suns’ affiliate, the Bakersfield (Calif.) Jam.
The 6-foot-6 Prather has started four of 15 games for Bakersfield. He’s averaging 8.8 points, 3.2 rebounds and 1.3 assists in 19.1 minutes per game.
Prather was one of four senior starters on UF’s Final Four squad a season ago. Patric Young, after being cut by the New Orleans Hornets last month, is playing overseas in Turkey. Scottie Wilbekin is playing in Australia and Will Yeguete is in France.
Prather isn’t the only former Gator playing in the NBDL. Former Gator forward Erik Murphy is averaging 8.6 points and 3.1 rebounds while shooting 43.5 percent from 3-point range for the Austin (Texas) Spurs.
