Word is that Chris Rainey will wear the No. 1 Jersey this fall, according to certain rumors about his nameplate in the Gator locker room.
If it turns out to be true, it's a remarkable turn around for a guy who was facing criminal charges a year ago-which some thought might have ended his football career.
Alas, Urban Meyer gave him another shot (and took a lot of heat over the matter) and so far so good.
Rainey owes Meyer big time for doing him a solid like that.
Speaking of Urb, continuing our look at the Class of 2012, is wideout Latroy Pittman from North Marion High School in Citra, Fl. Who gave his verbal last August.
The 6-foot-1 high school senior is 198 lbs and runs the 40 at 4.7. He is a playmaker with great hands (one handed catch in video below) and instincts.
ESPN's Tom Luginbill had this to say about him "Latroy Pittman is not a burner, but he will make you work to cover him."
Though he is a Meyer commitment, and will still take official visits to other schools (Florida State, Notre Dame, Arkansas, LSU and Alabama are said to be after him), he is thought to be a solid verbal.
There has been some talk he would be a safety in college, but I think under the Muschamp regime he's slated as a wideout.

-CBS has announced that it will kickoff its 2011 schedule with the Gators-Tennessee game on Sept. 17 at 3:30 p.m. ET. Though the complete schedule has not been released, the Gators will also appear on the Tiffany Network Oct. 29th vs. Georgia.
-Incoming freshman Bradley Beal won't participate in the Under-19 training camp for USA Basketball it was announced Monday. Gator teammate Scottie Wilbekin has been added to the camp. Patric Young is already slated for the camp which begins later this month in Colorado Springs, CO.
-The Gators baseball team will host Mississippi State in the Super Regionals for the NCAA Baseball tournament after defeating Miami Sunday. They will host MSU for a best of three series this coming weekend in Gainesville.
-The Gators softball team is also advancing to the Championship Series of the Softball World Series after sweeping Alabama last weekend. The Gators will face Arizona State for the title.
-The SEC approved a measure which would limit the number of scholarships offered in a given year to 25, down from 28. This is a major step towards preventing oversigning which has become a key issue. From a UF standpoint, the rule should favor, or not affect the Gators since UF has taken a firm stance on greyshirting activities while schools like Alabama and Ole Miss to name a few have drawn heavy criticism for oversigning in recent years.
