There is something special about Cornelius Ingram.
That doesn't mean the 6-foot-4 rookie tight end chosen in the fifth round in last month's draft is about to embark on a storybook NFL career.
Having departed the University of Florida, Ingram is in the embryonic stage of his professional football education, and this week's rookie camp is the latest tutorial.
In yesterday's practice at the NovaCare Complex, Ingram dropped a pass right in his hands.
As he returned to the huddle, someone on the field said, "Come on, number 88, you've got to catch that ball. There's nobody hitting you."
Ingram didn't play a single down during his final season at Florida, when the Gators won the national championship, but he still left an indelible impression on teammates and the coaching staff.
"It was horrible," Florida coach Urban Meyer said when asked about the torn anterior cruciate ligament injury that ended Ingram's 2008 season. "You hate to say it, but you do have a certain feeling for some players that you don't have for others. He had worked so hard on his blocking in the spring [of 2008] and then he can't even play."
