This is BIG...You know how some of us have been fretting about what has been possibly the sole "weak link" in our Coaching Staff, the fact that we have basically been operating WITHOUT a Receivers Coach since Aubrey Hill suddenly and somewhat mysteriously bailed on us at the start of this season? I HAD explained the way its "place was being held" by a grad-assistant (a young protege of our OC) until a more permanent "good fit" could be found in due time...
Well, that "good fit" requirement has been met with flying colors--and THEN some! What has already begun to establish itself, top-to-bottom as the best young coaching staff in all of college football has just added that one "missing piece" that couldn't have BEEN more impressively handled.
The former Head Coach of the Kentucky Wildcats, Joker Phillips, a man KNOWN and respected nation-wide as a brilliant tactician and innovator in passing offense, has just become our new Receivers Coach.
Anyone else as amazed by this hire as I am? I mean. I knew we'd get someone good, and I had a feeling it would come sooner, rather than later, once the regular season ended and staffs started shaking up and switching around, people becoming available and old loyalties and connections could once again be renewed--but the speed AND magnitude of THIS hire took even MY breath away. To say "We got a good one" here is akin to saying "Things seem to be coming along rather nicely at this point", in terms of how fast, far and well our staff and team are shaping up for the future. The expression, "The future is NOW" obviously is about the best way to describe what Coach Muschamp & Co. have in mind for the Gator team-in-the-making. I don't think THEY will accept anything LESS than "undefeated" next season: That's the clear aim, anyway, and it's NOT just a matter of "Well, that's ALWAYS your HOPE..." This is THE PLAN...and they are going after it in the only way that gets you there: Aggressively.
Pretty amazing when the coaching staff of an SEC program is ahead of both the intentions AND expectations of their (often rabidly impatient) fans.

Added to above:
I didn't even get INTO how this could positively affect our already hot-hand at recruiting...Hill was also our de facto "Recruiting Coordinator" before he left, and it took some months to overcome and rise above his leaving...Joker is known as a tireless and charismatic recruiter, who no doubt was and continues to be in touch with some talented kids who may well feel more connected with him than with Ky., and could now be even more excited at the idea of playing in Gainesville for one of the hottest, highest profile programs AND Head Coaches in college football, if we want 'em (and given our thinness at WR there's a good chance we might...).

Good coach. Nice guy. Experience coaching hands-on with receivers. He will be grateful that someone offered him a job in the SEC, so he will stay for a little while (unlike Charlie Cheeseburger).

...So NOW I'm almost as excited, looking forward to NSD , as I am about our game in January...maybe even more so.
(Yikes--I'm as bad as those draft-freak/nerds who LIVE for this stuff, follow it obsessively, almost religiously, all YEAR, psyched for that Day-In-Feb. like a nine-year-old on Christmas, but I just can't help myself: This is our "future potential" that they are working and ALL of us are watching and waiting on. A "homerun" here could well position us as a kind of self-perpetuating powerhouse for years-to-come, in a way seen only now and then in college football's modern era--I AM talking about that kind of dominant territory this kind of widespread perfectionism and attention-to-detail that Will Muschamp, and the kinds of individuals he has surrounded himself with in building his staff and program, demand and take for granted in THEMSELVES. I know that sounds like hyperbole, so I wouldn't even say it out loud anywhere but here--where I am pretty sure I am discussing it not only solely with fellow Gators, but people who are intelligent, thoughtful and circumspect--We can cheer on our team, even talk up our growing strength and promise ("Here we COME!!!") but we don't even DARE say too much yet about how thorough and long-range our leaders' true plans, and how far advanced they will soon be:
Like "WORLD Domination" to one of those old Bond-film diabolical "Organizations-of-Complete-Control", you don't, CAN'T let on publicly your plans, and how close you are to seeing them in place, until it is already a "done deal"--in fact, it's always their downfall (and one essential to the plot, btw) when an arrogant "Genius-at-the-Top" goes and brags about it prematurely and "lets the cat out of the bag", so to speak...OUR Genius, "CHOMP" (he even has the requisite great Bond-villain name--but he is no"Evil Genius"...we've already HAD one of those--See how this works?) will be the last to either become satisfied and/or complacent, on the one hand, or an arrogant, over-confident braggart, on the other, to mess this up...and I sure don't wanna be the one, so this stays buried here in a long paragraph in a side-thread on our "Site for True Gators", GE...Got it? Any further inadvertent discussion of these secrets, privy only to those of us pre-screened and vetted by the GPTB ("Gator-Powers-That-Be"), is strictly VERBOTTEN, nicht wahr?
