This is BIG...You know how some of us have been fretting about what has been possibly the sole "weak link" in our Coaching Staff, the fact that we have basically been operating WITHOUT a Receivers Coach since Aubrey Hill suddenly and somewhat mysteriously bailed on us at the start of this season? I HAD explained the way its "place was being held" by a grad-assistant (a young protege of our OC) until a more permanent "good fit" could be found in due time...
Well, that "good fit" requirement has been met with flying colors--and THEN some! What has already begun to establish itself, top-to-bottom as the best young coaching staff in all of college football has just added that one "missing piece" that couldn't have BEEN more impressively handled.
The former Head Coach of the Kentucky Wildcats, Joker Phillips, a man KNOWN and respected nation-wide as a brilliant tactician and innovator in passing offense, has just become our new Receivers Coach.
Anyone else as amazed by this hire as I am? I mean. I knew we'd get someone good, and I had a feeling it would come sooner, rather than later, once the regular season ended and staffs started shaking up and switching around, people becoming available and old loyalties and connections could once again be renewed--but the speed AND magnitude of THIS hire took even MY breath away. To say "We got a good one" here is akin to saying "Things seem to be coming along rather nicely at this point", in terms of how fast, far and well our staff and team are shaping up for the future. The expression, "The future is NOW" obviously is about the best way to describe what Coach Muschamp & Co. have in mind for the Gator team-in-the-making. I don't think THEY will accept anything LESS than "undefeated" next season: That's the clear aim, anyway, and it's NOT just a matter of "Well, that's ALWAYS your HOPE..." This is THE PLAN...and they are going after it in the only way that gets you there: Aggressively.
Pretty amazing when the coaching staff of an SEC program is ahead of both the intentions AND expectations of their (often rabidly impatient) fans.
