The Sunday Blog comes at you after three hours of sleep, which is about 20 minutes less than someone who was supposed to share a cab with us to the airport. I’m not naming names, Open Mike.
1. Memphis should have a regional every year. Check that, I should get to cover a regional in Memphis every year. You couldn’t have asked for a better situation with the Westin hotel across the street from the arena and a block from Beale Street. Any hotel that lets you check out Gibson guitars from the front desk is pretty strong in my book. It was a little weird having to take a freight elevator to get to the floor from the press center, but it was a great five days.
2. I thought the charge on Jarnell Stokes was a shaky call, but the block/charge continues to be the Achilles heel for college basketball officials. Still, I wouldn’t have put the ball in his hands so far away from the basket. At any rate, it was a nice run for the Vols. But now they have to wonder if Cuonzo Martin will go to Marquette because Tennessee fans pined a little too much for Bruce Pearl.
3. I was on the floor Saturday night talking to Will Yeguete and he had one of the nets around his neck. Someone asked him what he was going to do with. “Eat with it on, sleep with it on, go to the bathroom with it on,” he said. I still can’t believe this team has won 30 straight games. It’s mind-boggling.
4. Sorry if this is a little short and a little late but I have to watch the last two Elite Eight games. Check out the Back Nine for more on the match-ups. By the way, I highly recommend the smoked chicken wings at Flynn’s in Memphis if you’re there.
