Yes, there will be a limited number of tickets available for Florida’s season opener against Georgetown in the Navy/Marine Corps Classic on Nov. 9.
Jacksonville Sports and Entertainment executive director Alan Verlander said that details on pricing will be worked out later this week. But the tickets will involve a package deal with the Jacksonville Jaguars’ Thursday night home game with the Indianapolis Colts on Nov. 8. It’s a package that will be first afforded to military members and veterans who plan to attend the event.
The game will be held on the deck of an aircraft carrier off Naval Air Station Mayport in Jacksonville. Verlander said the exact carrier hasn’t been chosen yet. It won’t be for security reasons until about 90 days before the event (mid-August).
“We are working on it,” Verlander said. “There is a way to sell tickets, per se, but NAS Mayport can’t sell tickets on base. So we’re working on a package deal right now involving the Jaguars.”
Verlander said he expects seating capacity on the deck to be close to 8,000, with at least 3,000 (and possibly more) taken up by members of the military, veterans and their families. That will leave around 4-5,000 for the general public.
“We’re expecting it to be a hot ticket,” Verlander said.
