'Tim Tebow' turtle is no more!

As first reported on Jacksonville.com Wednesday afternoon, the organizers of the Turtle Trails project repainted the 5-foot tall Tebow turtle statue in front of Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena. It's no longer wearing Florida quarterback Tebow's No. 15. Instead, it's No. 1.

The UAA wanted the Tebow likeness to be removed for NCAA violation purposes. We don't want Timmy getting in trouble now do we?

Crocs shoes was using an illegal reference to Tebow in one of their recent ads, and the UAA sent them a cease-and-desist letter also (link: http://blogs.orlandosentinel.com/sports_college_uf/2009/09/florida-protests-crocs-use-of-tebows-name.html#more ).

It's nice to see them being proactive in watching for possible NCAA violations instead of overlooking them and putting us in a precaroius situation.

Yeah, that's the one at Ballyhoo's in Gainesville......when I watched the new SEC show on Sun Sports, they made mention of this one.

You're right... that big wood statue was one of the first to be made. Maybe they feel the turtle resembles Tebow more in the face ?

well there are two thing I don't understand about having to change the number. 1 is they sell #15 jerseys in stores all over the place. It doesn't have his name on it so it should be fine. The other thing is they changed the turtle to #1 that is still a player's # so how is that any different than the #15??

when i first heard about the cease and desist on the turtle, that wooden tebow at ballyhoo's came to mind. dunno what the difference is. odd. very odd
