UF secondary on the attack

O-town Gator

"What Florida's defense lacked in 2009 has become of a staple of the 2010 version.

Big plays out of the secondary have brought the ball-hawking attitude back to Florida's secondary now that the Gators have intercepted eight passes through their first two games. Six of those picks have come from Florida's defensive backfield, better known around the Gator practice facility as "The Assassins."

"We just come out and play fast. We think about every time the ball is in the air it's ours," junior cornerback Janoris Jenkins said. "We're going at it like ninjas."

Everyone seems so relieved, so much more optimistic concerning this team at THIS point in their growth than I feel. By now it should be clear that there's just so MUCH healing, coaching, learning, growing (growing up and growing together) to be accomplished in the weeks ahead that it just can't HELP but be a bumpy ride for everyone, including us fans--all the more frustrating for us 'cause we can't DO anything but watch. Longer term, over the course of the whole season and beyond, I'm VERY optimistic: we'll be something special, a powerful force in all phases by late in the year. Urban & Co. will make sure of that. The pieces are all there. I don't think it's at all unrealistic to predict we'll play for a Nat'l Championship (such as it is) next year.
Meanwhile, like a lot of y'all, I keep wishin'/hopin'/screamin' that they limit the damage and minimize the potential number of losses by at least recognizing the obvious (like Thompson's complete unreliability, to name just one of a bunch of chronic tactical problems, and Addazio's inability at game-planning, to name a major STRATEGIC one). I'm not calling for anyone's head, but there's no room for worrying about FEELINGS either. Right or wrong, no running from reality.

Based on this quote , it sounds to me like you're still calling for Addazio's head over the "playcalling".

Every response to the blog posts I've seen has you taking a dig at Addazio.

I'm not quite on the Addazzio-bashing bandwagon, but I have thought about it. Today in the 2nd half, I really liked the play calling. We switched from the I to the spread very well. If Addazzio is responsible for that in some way, then he gets brownie points from me.

I am still a little worried about Pouncey. Let's see what happens against tougher teams with big nose tackles or defensive tackles in his face. Mr Brick Hands needs more Tack 'Em glue on his gloves. And soon. Caleb Sturgis needs to heal.

I'm a big fan of that secondary, and the youngsters on both sides of the ball.

In the second half of that game today a sleeping giant woke up, and that giant dominated.

Agreed. Apparently that one equipment manager knows quite a bit about football if he could convince Pouncey to alter his stance. And yes, Sturgis needs time to heal.

Janoris Jenkins and Ahmad Black are MONSTERS.

These freshmen are diamonds in the rough.

100.001% agree. That sleeping giant needs to stop taking naps in the first half. First quarter is fine against most teams, but first half? We are finding that identity--blue collar team with white collar playmakers. The blue collar, grind-it-out team will definitely help keep some of our players fresh, and keep our vaunted defense ready for the prowl. The white collar, explosive players like Demps and ummm, well, the defense will keep us competitive with a 1-2 punch.

Look at Penn State--all blue collar, no flash. I think if we can grind it out against Alabama, and then throw in a few surprise "trick plays" (as many consider the spread), we can be competitive against our toughest foe.

I don't want to take anything away from this defense, they have been playing like animals, but we won't face a good QB until the Alabama game. I just hope they keep playing strong and get hyped for the Bama game.... just not over-hyped.

Once we get everybody back in the lineup and Will Hill can get his ducks in a row, we'll be even more potent.

Our defense handles the pass very well, but Richardson or Ingram will be a big challenge for us. Our d-line needs to start eating QBs for breakfast and RBs for snacks as we face UT so we can tune up for Bama.
