Urban holiday! If Gators win national title, coach could break the bank . . . again

It's well-earned as far as I'm concerned: http://www.orlandosentinel.com/sports/orl-sportsfbcuf25122508dec25,0,7245785.story

Of course, if the Gators win.

Regardless, getting to the National Championship within a matter of two years again is an accomplishment in itself. Coach Meyer deserves a raise as far as I'm concerned - Foley would be a fool not to appease Meyer or do whatever is takes to keep him in Gainesville and "hands off" to other teams.

"When you play for the national championship there is a misconception that the schools participating reap a $17 million pay day.

Florida is hoping to make $47,400.

According to the budget approved by the University Athletic Association's board of directors last week, UF will spend $2.42 million on the game and receive $2.467 million in revenue from the SEC. The rest, as usual, goes into a pot that includes all bowl revenue and is split by the other 11 conference schools and the league office.

The big winners are the coaches who guided the Gators to Miami.

Florida head coach Urban Meyer will receive a bonus of $125,000 for getting the Gators to the national title game and would receive another $100,000 if the Gators win the game against Oklahoma. The Gator assistants will receive 25 percent of their salaries as bonuses and another 5 percent if UF wins. Charlie Strong, the Florida defensive coordinator, is the highest-paid assistant at $300,000 a year and will get a $75,000 bonus and another $15,000 if the Gators prevail.

All together, the Gator coaches will receive $606,000 in bonuses. Florida's support staff, such as trainers and administrators who will be working next week in Miami, receive another $354,000 in bonuses."

"There's some cushion in the budget," said Florida associate athletic director Greg McGarity.

Well then, that being said - how about giving the gentleman pictured below a decent boost in pay to keep him in Gainesville?
