GAINESVILLE — "For most coaches, this sounds like a good year: hammer two of your three arch rivals, win nine games and play in a January bowl game.
But that was Florida's 2007 season and it was Urban Meyer's nightmare - one he hopes does not recur this year as Florida reloads a team that lost nine NFL draft picks in April. Despite losing so much talent, including Heisman Trophy quarterback Tim Tebow, the Gators enter their season opener Saturday against Miami (Ohio) ranked No. 4 in the Associated Press poll.
Coming off the 2006 national championship, Florida graduated 23 seniors and sent four other players to the NFL. That 2007 team's defense struggled through a 4-0 start, dropped three of its next four games after that, got blown out by a Chad Henne-led Michigan team in the Capital One Bowl, and made Meyer miserable."
