What if we still had Cam Newton?

What if Cam Newton was never kicked out of school and we had a huge QB battle between him and Brantley going into this 2010 season? With Newton having an extra year of experience do you think he would have been the favorite to start?

Had Cam Newton not been so stupid, our QB depth chart would have been very strong - almost the envy of the rest of the SEC. He was Tebow-like in his ability to run the ball and gain yardage on QB options; we would have had the perfect two-QB system heading into this fall similar to what we had back in '06 - Brantley and Newton together could have been a HUGE weapon on offense.

Still, I believe that Trey Burton will catch on and do just fine.

Nope. Johnny has an "it" factor that we will see this year. Cam would not have beaten Johnny in the overall competition. There is more to being QB than being stronger and bigger. Chris Leak showed us that you do not need to be built like Timmy to play QB under Urban Meyer. Cam and Trey may be built like Timmy, but they still need to run the Urban Offense like a starter.

I was talking to an Auburn student the other day (don't worry, he is a Gator fan) and he said that Newton is doing well there and has developed into more of a pocket passer. I'm not sure how much this guy knows about football or how much he follows it, but I don't think Newton would have matured enough as a Gator to take the starting spot from Brantley. But there is no doubt he was a beast runner.

In the 2008 Spring game, he sucked. Tebow with a fever had a better game than he did. Brantley was out.
