Well, we DID manage to step up on Defense a couple of times in the 4th quarter... BOTH Offense AND Defense MORE than held their own...The PLAYERS on those squads...NOT the Coach. Even the Special Teams, except fir that one kick off late in the 2nd, the one Kick where he DIDN'T send it to the back of the endzone that was fielded deep and run back ALL THE WAY by the sand kid who'd just let a pass right to him sail right through his hands and into the arms of a Gator who took it back to the 1 foot line, leading to the touchdown that GAVE RISE TO that kickoff, aside from THAT even the special teams generally did their jobs today...well, there WAS another crucial "illegal substitution penalty" that could have cost them at the end of the first half
but fortunately did NOT--But DAMN: That one is a COACHING foul up that KEEPS ON HAPPENING!
The rough spots were ALL on Coaching this time.
The TEAM probably played its best, most complete game.
However: I give MINIMAL credit to our Coach.
Glad to break the UK recent "streak" against US, but I don't wanna hear about a five (or even a SIX) win season warranting another season with Napier at the helm...but if they MAKE IT to six and a bowl invitation, I'm hearing he might well GET that "ONE MORE YEAR"...
HERE is how I see it:
If Lane Kiffen is READY to move here, we grab the opportunity to get him, regardless of our win total (but FOR SURE if it's at just 5!).
Now, if HE isn't quite ready yet, and this Gator team DOES make it to at least six wins, then unless someone that fits like I believe Lane would here similarly comes into focus, I guess I don't care so much if we then end up having Billy fir just "ONE MORE YEAR".
YOU SEIZE on the chance to get Lane Kiffen if you can--but you don't necessarily fire a slowly improving Napier IF he finally brings this team to the post-season after all--not just to "go get SOMEBODY"!

From Florida Sports Info:

DJ Lagway may have only completed seven passes, but six of the seven were explosive plays:
● Wilson III 49-yds
● Badger 50-yds
● Badger 58-yds
● Dike: 23-yds
● Dike: 44-yds
● Badger: 40-yds

He also added two explosive runs
● 13-yds
● 22-yds

From Florida Sports Info:
Yes. He really IS special--the best we've had here in a long while, and we have HAD some good ones in the meantime.
We can WIN some shootouts with this kid...
But the thing is, can Billy learn to USE that?
I doubt it: Coach turns out to be the EPITOME of "SCARED MONEY", so we won't likely MAKE a whole lot of money that way.
So: Gotta somehow hang onto DJ, but at some point bring in the guy who really IS more of a "gunslinger".
I am beginning to envision some scenarios that might accomplish that and MORE, this year or NEXT, depending upon circumstances--but am gonna let all that go for now.
I am watching the game-replay right now--my 2nd one since the actual game. They are not just improving game-by-game now but PLAY-BY-PLAY, it seems.
Now, it IS against UK. We ARE more talented than they are. But due to injury this is with a lot of our freshmen, too. What might an aggressive and talented GAME-CALLER DO with these kids--especially with time and a full preseason of proper conditioning and experience?
Buy we can proceed fully to THAT discussion later THIS season, after we run some portion of this pending "SEC GAUNTLET" ahead.
And make no mistake: This was NOT any kind of "Perfect Game" by our team. We made our share of mistakes, same old bad play calling and missed tackles--but THIS time we found ways to overcome them, RISE ABOVE...We did a lot of good things, and in the end, we pulled AWAY.
And THAT was great to see. EXTREMELY SATISFYING. So we back off a little for now:
Coach (and the team that still is buying IN to his plan) get THAT much "benefit the doubt" for now, anyway.
