BUT...
With just 2 more wins from among the rest of what's ahead (just 2 out of 5 games: Say, AT FSU and one other--albeit all ranked opponents but at least a couple of them now seemingly within the realm of "doable" by this steadily-improving Gator squad, especially the contests coming in the Swamp) there is now quiet discussion that perhaps we don't fire Billy after all, that with 6 wins he gets that 4th season as UF Coach.
How does this go down with y'all?
On the one hand, it is more than many forecasted--especially after the general look and feel of things early in the season (right up to the first bye-week!).
On the other, are we to reward a guy for basically "improving" to virtually the same record that got his predecessor FIRED? And overall we are still stuck floundering at the BOTTOM of the SEC.
This isn't the STANDARD at UF.
This IS FLORIDA!
Are we to return to being the "The Sleeping Giant" that Bear Bryant described pre-Charley Pell?
I don't know. I MIGHT have felt differently BEFORE the season, looking at our schedule, etc.
But at this point I see our latest recruiting efforts being picked apart by other schools due to the uncertainnty and seeming widespread inconsistency and unreliability everywhere ELSE!
By now I BELIEVE WE DESERVE HOPE, EXCITEMENT, REBIRTH!!!
Can that be accomplished with and/or by Billy Napier? Or, alternately, is there someone available NOW with whom that can be achieved??!
Is there "ABOUT TO BE"? Is THAT why we are in limbo, WAITING for "that one guy" to become properly "available"...
I have no idea. I do not claim to have any kind of "solid special insight"--On the contrary:
For US, the fans, it really HAS come back down to "game-by-game", "Wait and SEE!", THEN I guess we'll each have our own judgment to weigh in with--AT THE END:
Let us see where we (and everyone else) stand after Tallahassee, Thanksgiving weekend.
