O-town Gator
Gator Fan
Last night I attended a party sponsored by the Central Florida Gator Club last night in Winter Park (an Orlando suburb for those of you not familiar with Florida; the late Paul Newman and the late Mister Rogers had homes there at one time). The guest speaker was "Hollywood Bob" Redman, who works with the UF football staff. There was a question-and-answer session that was opened up after he had updated us on the Gator practice sessions to-date.
Some of what we found out I'll mention, but with all the rumors floating around lately I'm being careful as to what I'll mention:
- Percy Harvin is not yet 100%, but he should be ready for the NC game on January 8.
- As far as all the crap floating around about Urban Meyer and Notre Dame that the media is twisting around, he's "ALL GATOR" and has no intentions of jumping ship - his dedication is 100% to the University of Florida - just as I thought all along.
- Why we haven't seen too much of Emmanuel Moody this season: He carried the ball well, but is still missing his assignments, especially where he should be lined up for the snap. Coach Meyer also mentioned this earlier; he hadn't quite reached a comfort level with this offense.
- Cam Newton has not been completely dismissed from the team after his incident with the computer theft; he's suspended indefinitely pending a judge's final decision on his punishment.
- Chris Rainey will likely have surgery for a groin injury after the BCS Championship; he's still OK to play on January 8.
There was speculative talk about recruiting, underclass players considering the NFL and who would replace Dan Mullen as OC, and I'm leaving it at that being respectful of NCAA rules and my distaste for rumors.
Otherwise, it was a fun night with some interesting info and what to look for from Oklahoma on the other side - it'll be a tough game, but after hearing what he had to say I like our chances!
