Totally took the day OFF--even from (most) Gator stuff, at least up til now, with less than an hour left before midnight...
BUT: I admit to a large (if under quiet control) growing excitement regarding a by-now fairly widespread rumor of some major news on the administrative horizon that may be pending.
It began with my one true "personal insider" telling me Monday that my well-known complaints and concerns regarding certain such issues "may be about to be addressed in spectacular fashion", then hit the online podcasts in similar "Gator insider hints at major changes"-style fashion on Tuesday--and overnight has spread wildly all today from there, STILL yet to be specifically revealed.
If you've heard about it (and the only way you would not have is if you had determinedly shut down ALL monitoring of such sites since the weekend), then, like me, you probably have a favorite potential scenario that transcends the usual "hope we get this or that guy"-bs.
I admit it: A belated gift of some particularly encouraging organisational move at in-game offensive approach, preferably in the guise of a particularly unexpected individual pacing the sidelines or sitting upstairs with headphones clamped upon him would be a welcome surprise and relief--the perfect "cherry on top" of an otherwise quite satisfactory addition to all our OTHER once-"pending" 2025 onfield needs.
We have already somehow been gifted with the most generous present of all--the one that has been so prominently MISSING last few years, it seems, for Gator fans: HOPE.
HOPE is what I had planned to voice my deepest thanks for here--and that is STILL what has so notably shifted the way we feel about our program, team and its future.
But there is still that one question hanging out there, the one about whether it will all really make a fundamental DIFFERENCE...and hence, all it took was one small hint dropped in a certain place and way on Christmas Eve, and 24 hours later here we are: Waiting for the "other shoe to drop".
Or at least subsequent word on what we somehow missed out on.

...and SO far, notably NOTHING--except perhaps the growing, gnawing feeling that it must mean that it is all fizzling once again.
One of this season's prevailing lessons has to have been about PATIENCE, I tell myself--and yet we can be forgiven I think for a certain amount of deeply "hairtrigger" reaction to a subsequent 2-day period of sudden "NO news" directly following that flurry of excitement Christmas Day.
I suppose, like many others I am all too ready to be disappointed, more or less trained "to expect the WORST" when it comes to crucial decisions affecting the Gator future.
This thing about an "in-game play-caller" I feel is HUGE: We are very close to having ALL THE PIECES IN PLACE. With Billy in charge overall but a kind of "onfield play-to-play manager", whether there on the sidelines or sitting upstairs on headphones (in direct link with Coach, and possibly QB too?), could well be that "last step":
The thing that puts us "over the top" and into the SEC's top tier--which in turn (as far as I'M concerned) by definition puts us among the elite of college football AND challenging for NATTYS on an annual basis!

The days keep peeling off the calendar now, "like sands thru the hour glass..." etc blah blah blah...
And the longer this goes on, the seemingly quicker we rush towards the new year...and for me at least that newfound "Hope" now dwindles.
Maybe I'm just a "typical Gator fan" at this point, but it just FEELS that the likelihood of this Coach actually taking the gapingly necessary step he MUST take in order for us to truly and realistically evolve back towards the elite status we are all so certain is our destiny and due, is by now no longer on the verge of happening--but rather fading away.
If that is the case, then Coach Napier turns out to be just another arrogant loser in a now long LINE of these whom we have suffered through while making wealthy over the last more than dozen YEARS!
We will blunder through another season of underachieving relative mediocrity despite the presence of DJ Lagway and all the other talented youngsters he has gathered here under the realization of his one actual "strength-as-advertized": His ability to recognize and LAND real talent.
But THAT, as it turns out just makes it all that much more FRUSTRATING. We MIGHT still win under his rather clunky overall offensive scheme, but if and ONLY IF he has the logic and humility to recognize and act on his empirically PROVEN limitations as a play-caller, and instead now applies that talent-for-finding-talent THERE, and turns that one crucial in-game duty over to such an individual.
Do so, and he (and, by extension, all of US) may well move forward into a fun and exciting future of success for himself and Gator Nation.
Do NOT, and, well, sadly we KNOW all too well how frustration and disappointment feels, how it piles up and feeds on itself in accelerated fashion.
We are at a crossroads right along with him now:
It is amazing to find ourselves "at a tipping point on a precipice" once more--with such promising AND dire consequences, depending upon one man's personal/professional choice.
It has come to that. And frankly, at this point our "long strange trip" has only left me feeling bewildered and powerless as the year ends--and possibly a whole ERA of floundering aimlessness and futility may be poised to end WITH IT...
Or not.
