("River City Show Down" (or whatever) my @$$!!!)
OK--know how we feel about all THAT...
But the rest of it, this game and the rest of this season, well, don't know bout y'all, but personally I don't know WHAT to think--certainly not what to expect.
We can beat this Georgia team: Our D is primed to shut down their offense at its current "best", has the talent, scheme and experience to do so--and they aren't even AT that theoretical level: Right up top, Chubb's not back to what HE was before last year's injury, and Eason isn't yet even nearcwhat he has the talent and background to someglday possibly be. THEIR defense isn't in our class to begin with, we have good RBs (at least 2 of whom, freshmen getting better with experience, have it in THEM to be great--don't think we'll miss Thompson much here either), and DelRio should have fewer cobwebs, better performance as a player AND "game mgr" all around by now, especially with the extra week of rest, film and practice...
And yet...After that 2nd half via Tennessee, I was and am determined not to inflate my own hopes: Frankly, the bottom line truth for me regarding any of it is "I dunno WHAT to think!!!".
In ANY of these matchups over the years, emotion and in-game swings of emotion (with resulting and/or game-CHANGING changes) have tended to decide matters. We start dropping passes, punts and dumb penalties early on and the whole thing could get away from us quick. FORCE any or all of the same, hey, just overwhelm them from the start and, with the Vols in our memory, just step on their necks and keep on going in the 2nd half and we have it in us to BURY them.
I'll tell you this, though: This one will be a clear public test for this Florida coaching staff. To the point that it can, OUGHT to be viewed as "Pass/Fail" for the Gator OC, however it goes. Barring a huge jump forward in scheme, performance and overall play-calling, I'd like to see him replaced in any event after the season, but if Nussmeier IS to retain Mac's confidence and his job as OC, it has to begin RIGHT HERE AND NOW.
Yes, we are still thin and under-talented in what we do have on the O-line (a major requirement in the next recruiting class); It will be up to our playmakers at the skill positions, and that's why it is all the more dependant on scheme and imaginative playcalling to get it done here today.
Can only hope for the best, at this point.
GO GATORS!!!
