OK. Time to vent some frustrated anger AND share some hope, however forlorn.
To wit, I'm asking y'all specifically to (1) tell us who you blame for our present predicament, chronic difficulties, or just your own personal anger and frustration, and (2) give us something you still cling to, some last sign or accomplishment that you can take from this season.
I'll go first...
(1) It should probably come as no surprise, but I BLAME Urban Meyer for, well, this whole mess we find ourselves with here now. "The Nameless One" as OC was just one of the symptoms (albeit a whopper of a "symptom", turning virtually every facet of managing our team and its future over to an incompetent, over-matched lug-head) of his whole twisted descent into confused depression, distraction and eventually, desertion in the face of realizing the hole HE had put US in--and making damn sure it was OUR problem and NOT his, once he did see it. You can bet Coach Boom sees it that way by now too: notice that not only is there no Meyer around the program in any form any longer, it pretty quickly developed that there was no longer TALK about "his help and guidance ", let alone any further discussion of "what great shape he left the program in", once the staff began to settle in and get a real look at what they had here. Not one to blame or make excuses (and stuck with so many examples of his predecessor's inattention and poor judgement), Coach Muschamp quickly just clammed up about what came before. With all the good our former Coach did here the first few years, he pretty well UNDID both the practical gains in the talent-level AND the trust and goodwill he had won in our hearts before leaving so unceremoniously. Now we know why he was so anxious to go--and why he REALLY beat it out of here the second time around. On balance, he left the program in CONSIDERABLY worse shape than he found it (ZOOK couldn't coach, but at least he left the program well-organized and well-stocked with talented players of generally high character--NEVER a priority for Urban, and without his braintrust of talented assistants, he ran this place into the GROUND); a considerable fall-from-grace, when you think about it...Hmmmm, maybe he IS the man for the PSU-job: they might very well deserve each other.
(2) My not-so-secret hope is a simple one: aside from beating Furman and getting bowl-eligible for the sake of another invaluable 5 weeks of practice and public profile (which we shouldn't and damn well better not NEED any "magic" for), the one thing I still dream of is that we can somehow pull it all together and beat the Semi-Holes in The Swamp in a couple of weeks. What more do I need to say about THAT???

One more thing--and this is sort of an "optional add-on". I DO want to note something that DOES give me cause for "hope", the other way one could go in responding to #2 here: that's the way the guys we do have left playing their hearts out there on both sides of the ball didn't quit, are NOT quitting at the end of these games (even though they ARE getting worn down and worn OUT, in the case of the defense, or are undermanned and overmatched in the first place, as in the case of the offense) AND the end of the season. Along with cleaning up the penalty-problems (not unrelated to the larger point I am making here, I think), that does bode well for next year, when a lot of them (especially on defense) will be the core, the cadre around which a whole lot of new guys will have to form up around and look to as they all find themselves "the new and better Gator team-of-the-future". Imagine what such determination and dedication on a team with all those holes FILLED might be able to accomplish

Those are my offerings, anyway. Now come on: I KNOW there are some strong feelings and opinions waiting to be vented out there. Remember, there ARE no "wrong answers" in an exercise like this. You feel how you feel, and no one has any right to argue with you about it--though we may have some reactions: I have little doubt there are those who totally disagree with MY "blame Meyer rant" (but they are wrong, of course, in THAT particular case--just kidding!) (...sort of...)

I blame the nameless whose now at Temple and also the players, I think Coach Boom has more fire and passion than most if not all of the players.

I too blame the nameless former OC. He may have inherited a few problems, but he sure as hell didn't accomplish anything to at least "stem the flow". As I said elsewhere, we need some continuity in the staff. Sadly that can only come with time. What do LSU, Bama, S.C. and Georgia have that we don't? Continuity and depth.

Pleading for a win against 1/2 ass u.

I am with you ALL THE WAY there, Gator.
(In fact, I could accept all the rest, if not happily then at least stoicly, as part of this season's "baptism by fire", where lessons are learned and the last vestiges of the old are "burned away"--but a lot of the sting would come off of it (and these "lessons" have more immediate value) if this team were able to pull out a win against 1/2 @$$. We ARE playing some "D" now...if Weis and the guys he's got can put together an imaginative game plan and execute it, and the Mole-team comes in with the same attitude as their fans, they not only can be had, we COULD actually hang some HURT on 'em--and end the regular season feeling a little better about EVERYTHING. Who am I kidding? I'll take an ugly 1-point win on a bad call, and be HAPPY about it!)

If it were possible, I'd take a 1/4 point win. I hate those tomahawk wieldin' injuns and their goofy war chant too!
God, I hate that "war-chant". I hate the Atlanta Braves just BECAUSE they do it too!

Me too. That damn chant is awful enough on the tv, but in person it is unbearable. It's like a skipping record. On and on, repeat, repeat. Surprised there isn't a medical condition associated with it like carpal tunnel. Maybe douchenheimers war chant syndrome. Symptoms are repetitive arm movements accompanied by incessant droning. Not to be confused with that stupid vuvuzela drone at international soccer games.

1. I blame Urban Meyer. I hate to do so, because I like the guy. However, he screwed us by retiring, then un-retiring, then leaving us with He Who Shall Not Be Named as the de facto head coach and offensive coordinator.

2. I have absolutely nothing to cling to for the future other than blind faith. This is our first SEC losing season, 3-5, since 1986 when we went 2-4 SEC, 6-5 overall. Once again we are ranked 7th in the conference, just like 1986. Even in 1986 we had signature wins over powerful #19 Georgia and #5 Auburn. We also beat the 7-4-1 FSU team that was pretty good that year. We have no signature wins this year. None. Zip. Zilch. That scares me. Despite that, I still have a modicum of blind faith to tap into, but that dwindling amount will continue to diminish if we do not get two signature wins. We need to crush FSU 45-10, and then Penn State or Ohio State 32-10 or something like that. Will Muschamp needs a couple signature wins to announce his arrival in the SEC as a head coach. Right now, nobody will fear the Gators in 2012, and we will continue to get embarrassed in games we should be winning.

(laughing) "Douchenheimers War Chant Syndrome". I love it. This should at LEAST go into OUR lexicon. And yes, it even exceeds that soccer "plastic horn drone" on the International Irritation Scale. Grounds for a lawsuit? ("Have you been to a Seminole football game, or watched one on TV? YOU or a family member may be suffering long-term psychological damage as a result of Douchenheimer's War Chant Syndrome. Contact the law offices of Hacker and Ringer for more information...")

All too true--but that last part, about nobody fearing us next year--THAT actually may work for us in various ways, if things go the way I am hoping. That doesn't quite take BLIND faith, though, just enough short-to-mid-term patience and hope that the current people we will have left, having been "through the fire", plus a recruiting class that ultimately exceeds even current projections indeed coming to fruition, will by relatively early in the season be able to surprise some folks. Next year will hopefully be the last year in this era that we will talk about "surprise-" and/or "signature-"wins: I look forward to this team shutting up a lot of people out there, around the SEC, in the media, even among some of the more hair-trigger, over-reactive whiners among our OWN "fans" (the public Gator blogs that normally attract more than their share of trolls, it seems, have lately been filled with way too many of these bickering, finger-pointing "Gators" obsessed NOT with how to get better, but with who to BLAME--and with no regard for the time and process that got us to this place, but rather who to scapegoat here and now).
Meanwhile, though I hesitate to even MENTION it now, with a game first this weekend against Furman that (unfortunately) has become all too important for us after all--and we better hope the TEAM isn't overlooking in any way--but to end the month AND our regular season, we DO still have an opportunity for one of those "signature wins" you speak of...I don't know about the terminally-disgusted out there, but for a lot of us here at GE I'd wager that beating the Moles would go a LONG way towards easing the pain of this season and showing the way to that "promising future". You're right: that's what "signature wins" are supposed to do, and all of us, fans, players, and coaching staff most-of-all are in desperate need of one, ASAP. If we have to wait until next year (all too likely), so be it; but man, wouldn't it be great...?

There are only a couple weeks left in the 2012 recruiting season for early enrollees. A signature win over FSU would help seal the deal with those Florida boys that are wavering between Florida and Florida State. A signature win AND a stomping of Furman would help sell some NFL draft stock on our graduating players. The good news is that we sucked so bad this year that no junior in their right mind would want to leave early for the draft, so we can keep more juniors than we have lately.

...AND some of the most advanced "stud" prospective-freshmen can well-believe they'll have a real shot at playing sooner rather than later--like, immediately, if they have the goods. That's a big deal to a lot of these "local heroes" when they are choosing from among the Florida schools--and it has worked AGAINST us in years past ('09 and'10 badly, as I recall...'11 it was the coaching change); 'bout time it swung the other way.
Another wrinkle: it turns out we have a number of talented and good-enough-to-have-played-this-year freshmen that either didn't play at all, or haven't played since very early on, in either case due to injury, that are therefore eligible for redshirt (and in at least two cases, may very well be granted MEDICAL redshirts, making this year not count at ALL). Not only does this give us and them more time here, but these are players that, though they have "fallen by the wayside" as far as our attention is concerned, ARE in all cases promising players at positions of need, AND they have had a season of practice, meetings and even some game experience to acclimate them to this level of play. Just a few more "latent factors" that quietly bode well for NEXT year, and beyond.
