GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) - Florida linebacker Dustin Doe will have surgery Wednesday to repair a double hernia and miss at least two games.
Doe, a two-year starter who has 13 tackles this season, was hurt Sept. 6 against Miami. He played sparingly two weeks later at Tennessee, and the injury flared up again Saturday against Mississippi.
Coach Urban Meyer said he hopes to get Doe back before Florida's Oct. 25 game against Kentucky.
Making matters worse at linebacker, the 12th-ranked Gators (3-1) could be without top backup Ryan Stamper at Arkansas on Saturday. Stamper broke a thumb in the season opener against Hawaii and played the next two games with a cast. He missed last week's game after spraining an ankle against the Volunteers.
Defensive coordinator Charlie Strong said Brandon Hicks would take Doe's spot if Stamper can't play.
"We still have enough guys at that position," Strong said Tuesday. "We feel pretty confident those guys will get the job done."
Also Tuesday, Meyer said running back Emmanuel Moody (high ankle sprain) and guard Jim Tartt (shoulder) probably won't play against the Razorbacks.
