The #3 Gators are coming off a 2023 season where they won a school record 54 wins only to fall short in the College Word Series finals. They return five starters: catcher/designated hitter Luke Heyman, first baseman/pitcher Jac Caglianone, second baseman Cade Kurland, left fielder Tyler Shelnut and right fielder Ty Evans. Coach Kevin O'Sullivan was rewarded for last year's success with a 10-year contract extension that will make him the second-highest paid SEC baseball coach at $1.84M a year.

Florida 10, St. Mary’s 0

Florida dominates the rubber match to take the series from St. Mary's. Jac Caglianone pitched 6 hitless innings, collecting 9 strikeouts while walking just 4.

Michael Robertson ignited the scoring in the 2nd inning with a 2-RBI double to right . Luke Heyman doubled the lead the 4th with a 2-RBI single dropped to center. The Gators loaded the bases with no outs in the next inning, but grounded into a double play, but a run scored and Florida led 5-0. Ty Evans sliced an RBI in the 7th inning double down the left field line. Tyler Shelnut hammered a fastball over right center for the 2-run homer.

Leading 8-0, Florida was in range to walk off the game. After loading the bases with 1 out, a sac-fly scored a run. Tanner Garrison finished off the Gaels with a hit down the left field line, closing the series with a 10-0 win.

A handful of Gators finished with 2 hits, including Luke Heyman, Colby Shelton, Ty Evans, Tyler Shelnut, and Tanner Garrison. The entire lineup finished with at least 1 hit each.

The competition ramps up significantly for the Gators, who face Florida State on Tuesday before getting back-to-back weekends against Texas A&M and LSU, three teams with just 1 loss between them. If Florida's pitching doesn't improve they won't find great success against that schedule.

Well, I find myself wrapped up in College Baseball, GATOR Baseball, in June somewhat unexpectedly this time around--and it took some early game hitting and late game sizzling relief to keep us headed in the FINALS after all...
So: We are still IN this thing.

Texas A&M eliminates Florida. This was a great season despite the circumstances. Congratulations to the 2024 Gator baseball team! It’s great to be a Florida Gator!

Interesting notes:
- The Gators barely qualified for the postseason and in a couple games they needed some late heroics to avoid falling below 0.500.
- The Gators started with a 28-27 record entering the tournament, which was their worst record prior to any season tournament.
- Beat #11 OKST
- Beat #6 Clemson
- Beat #10 NCST
- Beat #2 Kentucky
- Finished 36-30 on the year.
