Didn't realize it was this early a kick off.
Noon on a weekday AFTER New Year's Day...Could they have MADE this more of an "Oh by the way"-game?
And as it unfolds at glacial pace onfield (I mean, good D means fast clock: It only FEELS like slow motion), and our otherwise superb defense gives a clinic in "Why you DON'T wanna have to play your Bowl game down your whole first-team secondary", our offense is once again giving its weekly dramatic rendering of a play named "Oh WHEN will we get a first-string SEC quarterback?!!"
Don't know bout y'all, but by now I am more concerned we don't lose a valuable underclassman here than I am bout whether we win or lose this game...We've already gotten its main value--the long added practice time and the (albeit hardly glorious) media spotlight that goes with it. That could make a difference in the recruiting home stretch ahead.
Game itself: Well, big goal line stand followed by big Scarlett run, so who knows? Maybe we can end this season on a high note...but NOT if the patchwork O-line keeps missing assignments, incurring dumb penalties, take us outta range of Eddie's foot.
Sigh. I gotta admit, I don't really understand why Mac & Co. didn't just go ahead and pull the redshirt on one of those freshman qb's WEEKS ago. Oh, of COURSE I get the basic idea under normal circumstances--they brought these "EXPERIENCED TRANSFERS" in for certain reasons, including NOT having to have either youngster lose a year prematurely...but I think THAT idea shoulda been "reevaluated" some weeks ago. It has been clear for some time now that NEITHER of the transfers had much more than mediocrity to offer at best.
We need to begin finding out what these kids on the bench can do, and THEY need to begin to see and grow used to the speed, etc at this level. At least maybe ONE of em--and Franks is supposed to be further along, so...
We shouldn't NEED both of them to have all 4 years of eligibility ahead: Idea is to have one succeed, the next to be ready and to KNOW they have a Senior year to shine even if the other stars, stays healthy and HERE all 4 himself. And maybe this staff might bring another strong prospect at the position each recruiting cycle too. That IS how they try to do it at the annually-contending programs. WE used to do it.
Well, there IS always the short pass that our playmakers can do something with, anyway: Even Appleby can manage that. Just did--for 6 pts pending pa.
Thompson goes a bunch. Wouldn't it be great if that were part of our script from anywhere on the field? Maybe NEXT year. Been saying that a long time now.
