GameDay: Saturday, October 13--Florida at Vanderbilt

YES! WAY back sack! Oh NO! ANOTHER Gator down! Chomp is HOT down there--did someone hit our guy late?
This game is not only turning out a real down-and-dirty fight, but it may well be leaving us so banged up we aren't near-healthy enough against USCe next week-- FG attempt BLOCKED!!! GREAT play! A LOT of ways to win a game when ya play bigtime D!
OK--never mind whatever else we might have thought and hoped for from this offense--I may think they should play a little looser and go after another TD before going to the "grind", but expect mostly running plays the rest of the way, unless and until we lose the lead. DAMN--we are JUST missing these---FAKE PUNT, PATTON!! 55 yards down inside their 10 yd line! BRILLIANT CALL!

This is a strange game.
TOUCHDOWN! Wait a minute, tho' Burton on the hold...another penalty takes a BIG TD off the board...pretty "iffy" call, tho'--DRISKEL TD RUN! MAN, HE IS THE REAL DEAL! Never mind comparisons to you-know-who--he does it HIS way: big AND fast.
You're right, it really is--but the amazing thing is that despite us being banged up AND not playing even CLOSE to our best, with us continuing to misfire even on defense to come out for the first long drive from Vandy in the 2nd half, and our offense not really having clicked at ALL yet--yet with that FG block, then that fake punt for 55 yards, we have somehow not just taken the crowd out of this, we have essentially taken control of this game.
Yes, "Strange"--and kind of amazing.
Can't really get over it: THEY dominated TOP AND the line-of-scrimmage there for most of the 3rd qrtr (only 3 and 1/2 min left), but it's US who got the only 7 pts. so far.
Well, at least Debose FIELDED this one--and almost broke it, after tearing away fro 3 tacklers. We ALL know what's coming now. Can't really argue with it, either. Well, like the IDEA they had there--had he gotten over or past that player (who made a great play), he had open field... Now Driskel forced out of the pocket--and Hammond was open past-the-sticks if he'd had another second or so...as it is, just gets a couple past the line-of-scrimmage...time to punt.

Lets see: as things stand now, and assuming our defense keeps them off the scoreboard the rest of the way and our offense is content to merely grind-it-out and not make mistakes that HAND them points or field position that allows them quick ACCESS to points, then we will probably end up winning this one with just one real drive on offense. FUMBLE! GATOR BALL!! THERE'S our turnover deep--and a short field for the offense!

Stuck in L.A. traffic. Missing the game. Finally got cell phone signal. How bad is it looking? Sounds like a boring game.
Alabama and LSU made a living doing this last couple years. The Gators just need to show a passing game on occasion.
More penalties?
OK: we get another 3 here for sure...but a TD would be nice, pretty well end this right here early in the 4th--and be good for the sake of our offense--DAMN! Interception--and we get NOTHING out of it! NO--he drops it...we are lucky there. Again: I like the thinking, but this time it was Driskel's (getting to be his regular) mistake, holding it a tick too long and therefore throwing it JUST that too late--otherwise a touchdown. Sturges FG good--up 21-7.
(Driskel continues to make the same or related mistake repeatedly, the classic error of a young QB: he waits I think until he SEES the receiver breaking into the clear before he throws it--which may work at the high school level, but is late, often WAY too late at THIS level, in our League).
Meanwhile, this tough and determined Vanderbilt team is driving AGAIN on us, moving DOWN the field with passes and long, tough runs. ..but 4th down now: and they GET it at our 23. We need to shut this down--and INTERCEPTED BY SAUNDERS! BEND, DON'T BREAK! Right on cue--but they TAKE IT AWAY on the HOLD!!! DAMNIT!!! I DON'T BELIEVE THIS!!! Now THEY have 1st and ten inside our redzone. That was HUGE! WQe had put this game away--but now they are about to get within a touchdown. 4-Down territory here at the 10...THis is as big a stand as our defense have faced so far this year. I can't get over that hold away-from-the-play on the interception. Penalties have handcuffed us again throughOUT this game, keeping our offense from getting going in the 1st half, and basically keeping the opposition IN this one in the 2nd!

1st-and-6-inches at the goal line--and he MAY get awarded the TD here on the review...let's see if THEY screw up the TD here--something tells me they won't, and instead of being able to just run this out, we will have to PLAY them the rest of the way--and play them hard(and here comes the first TD against us in the 4th qrtr). DAMN--they BARELY made it in that time...now those two having-to-settle-for-FGs may bite us.

We keep letting teams hang around. It could come back and bite us in the butt.
Crowd's back in it, too...OK: This is when our running game MUST come through, even WITH more than half our well-drilled 1st team out. NO FIRST DOWNS THIS QRTR. GREAT REATURN BY DEBOSE! FINALLY! Special Teams have been the difference here tonight!
