Col. Thomas Mott had a tough decision in the days leading up to the FedEx BCS National Championship Game.
He had to select another pilot to join him for a flyby mission over Dolphin Stadium during the national anthem of the college football title game between Florida and Oklahoma on Jan. 8.
His answer was hanging on Capt. Rhett Hierlmeier's wall.
Hierlmeier graduated from the University of Florida and spent two years as a Gators cheerleader.
"He's got the Gator thing on his wall and his certificate of graduation from Gator U. It was like, ‘Alright, I think I know who I'm going to have to do this,'" said Mott, the 325th Operations Group commander.
