Where do we put this one?:
"Appleby -10"...and even that hides another 7 pts given away: If he had thrown a decent pass on the preceding 3rd down play we'd have been set with more downs at midfield--instead of having to kick that fatal punt.
Now the D's running down, the offense back to floundering with essentially a frightened and deflated qb. OK OK I need to go away now.
Someone wake me when we play a NEW QB. Like, next year? We hope (the pre-injury Delrio was NOT the answer; the post-injury one made APPLEBY look preferable--OUCH! No, I don't really know what we've got on the bench at qb (I HEAR we have "2 good ones", with Franks further ahead in development), but I gotta believe Mac is after at least one more NO MATTER WHAT...Anyone hear anything bout who's hot out there, "The Guy" everyone's after.
Good idea--poorly executed on the fake K.O. Hiked to wrong guy, right over the runner's head--kicker shoulda pooched it when it went bad. Oh we are collapsing now. Sad sad sad. So bad, it'd be funny if you weren't a Gator.
D's still showing up. Shut em down while meanwhile we are getting SLAUGHTERED. Yeah, E-'s assessment holds: Gotta be the strangest "shellacking" I've ever seen...Guess thats what you get when your D's in the Top 5, but your Offense is like, what, 120th and heading lower? I just think you HAVE to change QBs here, if you have any claim at all that you're still trying to WIN this game.
ANOTHER pick!!! Threw it WAY late! Oh, gets lucky, dropped after all.
GET. HIM. OUT. OF. THERE.
This kid is the proverbial "deer in the headlights" now. Nice punt--outkicking the coverage, of COURSE.
WHATEVER this team "believed" coming in, it had a chance to gather confidence and momentum the way they started out...but now, they are beaten. The D will play well long as they can, for pride, dignity and toughness--but they will tire by the 3rd qrtr. For there to even be a HINT of a game here the Gators HAVE to somehow totally flip things here.
But Tide's bout to score again, put this away. Do we just surrender? Or begin a new era, right here, right now?
I say "Put Franks in." Unless you have nothing FOR him, never even PLANNED for having him in there. I really hope that our Coach isn't another one of "THOSE guys". You know--"Gotta go with guys that brung us." The guys that brung us WHERE??? ONE GUY basically laid us LOW on his very own. You don't REWARD him for that. No, you go with "PLAN B", or "C", or friggin "Z" for cryin 'out loud--this kid is a train wreck. And he is getting worse as this proceeds. ANOTHER PICK.
What do ya need to see, Coach?

One player, our QB, is almost completely responsible for the way this has gone.
Even his one decent drive early proves my main point--the one I've been hammering on for sometime:
"We GOTTA get a QB!!!"
Not a brilliant or subtle insight, I'll be the first to admit. In fact, that may be the most frustrating and baffling part of this whole fiasco, going back SEVEN YEARS, 3 coaches "and a buncha stiffs" at OC: We've been without a competent QB the whole time--and STILL haven't managed to solve it!
Yeah yeah yeah...a touchdown. Too bad our qb handed them 33 points since we opened up with the first one. Pull a couple of those TERRIBLE picks off the play-by-play and you're still IN this game.
I don't wanna HEAR about "a spark" or "regaining some pride". FRIG all that!
We have had a clear demonstration of the MAIN thing wrong with our program:
We have been way too long without even a hint of ONE decent QB--let alone a conveyor belt/ assembly line of "next one UPs", like it SHOULD be, I totally and teuly believe.
Do we already finally have the start of one of those "supply lines" sitting on tje bemch right now? Are we really gonna wait til next SUMMER to find out???
If there's POSSIBLY one advantage to falling this far behind in just this way (again: it is this inept qb's direct FAULT that we are already on the wrong end of a lopsided score), it is that there would be little argument or 2nd guessing a switch to Franks, for eg--especially if you HAD prepared him for such a possible scenario ahead of time...Now, if you HADN'T, well, then I wouldn't EXPECT such a move--but I WOULD then begin to ask OTHER questions, like, "WHY THE HELL NOT??? What the HELL are you waiting for, at this point? Has there been ANY consideration yet as to how and/or when we BEGIN to upgrade the offense--and how DO you expect to accomplish that WITHOUT better QB play? Aren't you the "QB-GUY", the OFFENSE SPECIALIST, brought IN specifically to quickly improve and expand exactly those aspects of our talent ans Play, Mac???"

How can he look so good on 2 drives and absolutely stink the rest of the time?
...and how come we are still RELYING on these stiffs?
Did our "QB-mentoring" and "Offensive Specialist" Head Coach really think these transfers were an adequate answer, even for just a season?
And now that both transfers have well-demonstrated their inadequacy, why are our "talented freshmen qbs" still lanquishing on the bench?
OK OK OK...Water under the bridge. But what aboit the 2nd half of a our last game of 2016. We've by now already pretty well played our way down to an "Irrelevance Bowl", why NOT unveil a young, fresh arm? It might give us SOME chance here now--and it'd certainly be exciting, not to mention a real chance to begin to give at least one of these kids some real experience while starting to sort out what you got, what you need and where you're going.
Unless you really HAVEN'T brought them along, haven't really even BEGUN the long process of preparing each to "be ready to step in come an emergency", at LEAST.
But here we are in the 3rd qrtr, still floundering with Appleby. I don't care WHAT he does: I don't have to be Nostredamus to tell you with complete certainty that WE WILL NOT COME BACK, WILL NOT WIN THIS GAME WITH APPLEBY AT QB.
Wouldn't have picked us to start with, won't pick us now...Not with this qb. Not if we manage to score here--and that certainly isn't certain even now.
Geez! Bad spot. Then they try again. One more time. Nope. We suck. ugh

Go ahead and write off the season. We cannot win with Appleby or Del Rio.

As a matter of fact, I will set my couch on fire if Del Rio is the starter in 2017.

Anyone surprised the Gators scored 16 points?
Yeah-maybe that DOES show what a good offensive Coach Mac is...but he's ALSO the man who sticks with this useless doofus at qb. And can't score with 1st-and-goal at the 3??? Well, coulda made it LOOK a little better on the scoreboard, at least.
I hung in a lot longer than I meant to, guys. I mean, I saw that y'all were, so I sucked it up...but once our D starts to wilt, I gotta go.
(And their line CAN score from inside the 3...they stop us at their 2, then quickly drive the field? That's this year's Gators right there: 3 yards and a fresh set of downs from getting within 10 pts--but they fail and give up a grinding 98 yd drive to go down 24 pts instead...)
I can stand ANY of it anymore. I really can't. I won't even try to put a "nice face" on it (that "lipstick on a pig" line comes to mind). I'm sorry. Even geting sick of our Coach's "We're playin'for a Championship, how bad can we be?/I'm just so PROUD of these guys" BULLSHIT!!! I don't like Saban, but I do approve of him being unsatisfied with anything BUT proper execution. In fact, I'd WELCOME some frustration and clear disatisfaction on our Coach's part at this point--in fact BEFORE now.
Look, Muschamp's "OVER demonstrative", even ridiculous bully role got old in a hurry too. But this "everything is fine, even with all our injuries" thing has worn thin already: Yes, Coach, we KNOW the team's been beat up, we KNOW it puts us at a disadvantage, but it's up to you to "use lemons to make lemonade" here--and the best, maybe the ONLY way to do that would have been to "start NEXT year THIS year": Begin introducing more and more of the frontrunners among the young guys to on the field action--and not just where injuries have FORCED you to, either.
Aw, I know I'm just going over n over the same territory here. And I really DO know and follow his and his staff's thinking and intentions in how they have "played the odds" for the sake of wins n losses--I JUST THINK THEY ARE WRONG!!!
Well, the season's almost over now.
Judging the results, how it has played out at the very end here, I am NOT gonna bother continuing the 2nd guessing any longer. No. I AM going to ask this simple question instead:
What NOW?
I mean, specifically, far as this coaching staff is concerned, "Are you solely comcetned ith just giving your seniors one last chance to go out with heads held high?" or maybe, is it finally time, are you ready to begin truly addressing this program's weakneses, gaps and shortcomings, find out what we really got now if we can, however we can? Begin to bring 'em along, see better what's GOTTA be addressed--and maybe begin to excite the fan base, too, with some glimpses of what's on tap?!!! I mean, that last part may or may NOT be important to you, but it can help you in so many ways if you have it--and play a large part in multiplyong difficulties and your eventual demise if/when you don't. You've been around, Coach; you know that.
Help yourselves, inform and entertain us. Like they say: Better late than never.

...and @Escambia94, too (since your comment at root of this discussion)
God, he CAN'T be that stupid. He's sposed to be some "Master of Offense"--how can he even CONSIDER settling for a proven-mediocrity at QB??? Not with young guys on the sidelines with more upside--and a whole recruiting cycle AND spring/summer to AVOID being stuck with LDR as anything but hopefully your THIRD choice (2nd backup, in other words--there to come in and finish a game before you start trying to get the other "young guy" ready, if possible, IF your starting QB comes up seriously hobbled for an extended period)...and all THAT is AFTER the coming recruiting results. I'm still waiting for us to once more grab "a really GOOD one" who actually lives up to, even EXCEDES his prep rep and finally and fully relaunches the Gator offense once more.
But I know it IS "possible", sadly enough.
I know too well now how they get stubborn, begin to believe their own press, think they really ARE these "masters", just need a decently competent stand in to properly execute THEIR plans and play-calling.
That's the one thing about Urban Meyer: He DOES recognize real game-changing talent, realizes how it makes his team better, makes HIM look smarter--and he goes out and gets them--hires guys who are like him in this way, are good at finding and enlisting such young potential stars at every position, and bringing them in.
I guess it is somewhat of a uniquely complex skill or SET OF SKILLS--'cause it seems easy to SEE but hardly any staffs are consistently good at it--and the ones that are tend to remain the same ones long as certain people are there, right?
Anyway, bout to find out where Mac fits in all this: it's true more places than JUST at quarterback, obviously--but I think we'll be able to quickly tell a LOT just by watching how things go there. And "sticking with LDR in 2017" should neither be desireable OR at all necessary.

Getting ugly. at this point throw Trask in there
Everyone else crying for a change mentions Franks... I hear BOTH have a lotta "upside", but Franks definitely seems to have more "rep"...What do you know about either, both? ...'Cause I gotta admit, aside from some video I saw from Franks' last prep year (and ok, yeah, he looked like he could run AND throw it long--at THAT level, but after some of the prep and/or practice field DAZZLERS who bombed as starters for us here at UF last few years, NONE of us trust "prep stars" at this point--and SHOULDN'T, til they prove themselves consistently up here), I really don't know much about either. So what have YOU heard or seen of either Trask or Franks, and/OR about anyone out there we are or OUGHTTA be after this recruiting cycle?

@awebbf5, @miltongator, @Leakfan12, @Escambia94,
Will wait a few days at least before really "lookin' ahead n back" at this season and beyond, but given everything, wanted to say THIS at least right here and now:
THANKYOU, Gators. I mean it. This has been a difficult season, one that has interspersed flashes of hope and promise amongst a whole lot of frustration and disappointment...and it would be, would have been a whole lot worse sittin' out here in the college football wilderness among our various heathen populations, certainly for ME, had it not been for y'all each Saturday. From my POV, you guys ARE "Gator Nation". I am so glad I was able to bitch, moan, laugh and generally commiserate with all of you. Again: Thankyou...and remember that...We drift our separate ways through the spring and into "the dog days", but come the late summer, well, you know...We can have some cynical fun kicking around our likeliest landing spot at which bowl, and we'll all be "there," but this will be a come-down game for us in every way--MORE "woulda shoulda couldaL" STILL.
As for today's game, that was like a microcosm, a boiled down version of the whole season, in a way. The worst part isn't the final score, it's that we just weren't, AREN'T as bad as the score might indicate--and yet that score DOES seem an accurate picture of our overall futility.
In spite of the latest version of the "bad luck Gators" injury-wise (and that has seemed a pretty well annual state every damn year since we fell from challenging for National Champion), unlike last week where that seemed more a part of a teamwide set of screwups and breakdowns, in this particular instance, not just losing but the whole feel of it really seemed the inevitable outcome of play on the part of just one young man at one position--no getting around it, The KEY ONE. Sorry, don't hate or wanna pile on Appleby OR Delrio--but we were, are and WILL CONTINUE TO BE in sad shape on offense until we get things straightened out at QB. We SAW, thru the various back-ups' response all over the field, that we have more talent coming up and stepping in on both sides of the ball late in the season, and we still gotta go out and get em some more help, more talent and depth along the O-line and elsewhere--but we've got next-to-NOTHING set or proven at QB...and it doesn't appear even the coaches will have much of a handle on that til late spring at the EARLIEST.
And to be so bad on offense, among the very lowest statistically in major college football, "worse-than-ever" after a string of below-100th-rankings, and still find ourselves finishing 8-and-4--and THAT after all the injuries AND another "swan dive of losses-when-it-really-counts" to end that season--well that only again suggests how really GOOD our Defense was...IS and will BE, I think--and will continue to keep us frustratingly "close but not there" until we start fielding outstanding talents at the QB position to lead what otherwise shows all signs of shaping up to be a pretty damn talented and balanced offense.
So, just as looking on the scoreboard like we got slaughtered in a game we actually played a superb team pretty well much of the way, so our "above average (BUT not up to Gator-standards)" record seen up close in detail game-by-game we know "coulda woulda shoulda" been, so close and yet so far from being a much better one.
We can get there. But we won't--not without a SERIOUS upgrade at the quarterback position. Upgrade every other area, both talent and depth everywhere--and maybe we win a couple more games annually...But to go undefeated or come close, make it to the Final Four, find ourselves annually in the discussion and the race once more, for THAT we gotta get a star immediately, and crank up a feeder/assembly line of incoming talent at that one position IN PARTICULAR.
ANOTHER one of these kinda years, and no sign or certainty that it'll CHANGE finally, this time. But once again, "the signs are good": Mac the "QB Guy", "Master of Offense", hired because of his reputation and experience to do just that--fix our long-sputtering, mucho-dysfunctional OFFENSE, once and for all. Ok, thru injuries and fact that it WAS just his 2nd season here, he managed to keep us moving semi-foreard with a coupla retread-transfers at QB--but he HAS to move on and UP now: The only way that happens is with some good ones COMING IN HERE, gettin' it DONE.

I couldn't believe the Gators D allowed Bama to 90 plus on back to back possessions including allowing Bama on convert on 3rd and 19, are you kidding me?
