Okay, we've all been saying the same thing that the pros in the article are saying, and it appears that Urban Meyer agrees. Now what?

He gets win #100 today and forces the media to get off his back about all the arrests.

Sarcasm aside, we should start to see this team take a step forward and show a little more improvement.

"...a LITTLE more improvement"?

Baby steps won't do this week. Can't wait until NEXT week to step up and take a stride or two. Not if we want to win today (let alone make a game of it against the Tide). Like to see them try throwing it down the field, too. Might come in handy, sooner or later (sarcasm intentional).

I'd be okay with not throwing down the field if we were consistently good at something else on offense, something that we could depend on in a pinch. Last year it was Tebow. The year before it was a strike to Harvin. Before that it was Tebow or Harvin. Before that it was Leak (admit it, he could sustain a drive or pull off a great pass). This year we think it's Demps, but it's rather early to tell if he will consistently squirt through that line for long runs. We've done it enough to make ESPN highlights, but not enough to say that is our bread and butter play or our Get Out of Jail Free play.

Baby steps. I want to take big leaps and avoid the "jeers" and bloopers highlights of ESPN--you know, the part where they show us muffing the snap, a ball hitting a receiver in the head, a brick-hand drop, fumbles in the backfield, and our biggest backs getting stuffed. Winning is great, but I hate my team getting mocked on TV.

Same here. We've taken enough hassle from the media this week with USA Today, Mike Bianchi and others raining on Urban Meyer's parade with their expounding on the number of player arrests in an attempt to overshadow Urban being on the verge of his 100th career win tonight, and we don't need to provide them any more fodder. Let's win, but not take any miscalculated risks that may result in our doing something stupid and ultimately costly.

I'm with you both, believe me--but we CAN'T play scared--when it comes to our approach on offense in general and the play of Brantley in particular, THAT is my greatest fear (and suspicion that its shadow may begin to cross this team's demeanor).
As for the way our whole program (as a group, as individuals, players, coaches, and Urban Meyer himself singled out) is being both mocked in highlights and attacked in grim, face-the-camera commentaries (did you see Greg Gumbel get in on the act?), it hurts, yes, but NOT in filling me with shame at my school but in ANGER at the blind self-righteousness of media blow-hards serving their own short-sited interests, attacking a convenient target by jumping on the bandwagon with no regard for the truth, let alone the larger context.
WE know the truth. Our coaches have/are/will do what's right and necessary for the good of the team, the program and (as far as is possible) for the young men involved.
Beyond that, their job and their PASSION is to continue to make this Gator team better, to see its parts improve their play and build towards a championship. It may not be this year, but it is coming.
Meanwhile, there's a lot of work to be done. They hope to limit mistakes, yes, and make sure the people they put out there are ready to play, but I can't see an Urban Meyer-coached team playing "not to embarrass itself".
I know that's not what you are saying, but as I hinted at before, those kinds of fears are what I have begun to fear might be creeping into Brantley's game. It's one more reason why I really want to see them open up the game-plan some. It's the right thing to do, both strategically and tactically, and a long-bomb TD (or 2, or 3) would do wonders for #12's state-of-mind.

last game before bama

we HAVE to pull it together and play a full game the way i know we can and blow these mofos out like we should

i hope the offense can get atleast 4 or 5 TD's

See what's happening to Texas today? (I live less than a mile from DKR--the silence is deafening.)
No matter what happens, it's pretty clear they were "looking past" UCLA towards Dallas and the Sooners. I could see it happening to us tonight: like the Horns, these Gators are a young team with a strong defense but still trying to find its identity on offense--and we go up against our recent nemesis next week in a game that's been circled since last year's SEC Championship. No matter what the coaches tell them, no matter what they see with their own eyes on film, never mind all the right words spoken: they're at home in the Swamp at night against a team they OWN, and you know they expect to win.
Of course, we all know that once you start making mistakes and fall behind, bad stuff can seem to snowball and the party becomes a nightmare.
I'm not saying it'll happen, just that I am afraid it COULD to such a young team, especially one that has shown so much disjointed confusion at times thus far.
Seeing it happen to a team with as many parallels to ours as Texas (even their much-vaunted "D" has started to cave--"when it rains...") is sobering.
Easy to forget how much better "winning ugly" is than "losing flashy".

Agreed. I did not explain myself well. I am not ashamed of my Gators, but I would like to give the media less to pick on us about. If I have to hear "Bad News Bears" one more time I'm going to get sick. It doesn't help when one of our supposedly best players gets arrested amidst all the fun-poking.

Other than that, we seem to be looking good as of 8:02 PM. (As I was typing this, we got intercepted at 8:03 PM).

Jon Bostic saves the day again with another interception. This should shift the momentum back towards the Gators; now let's hope they can clean it up a bit from that last sloppy drive.....

And this is why I am happy. So what? We played sloppy on offense. Defense saved the day and erased an offense mistake. As long as the offense occasionally carries its own weight, which it has been doing for the most part so far.

21-0 Gators: momentum should shift back to the Gators. That pick-six by Jeremy Brown gave our offense more time to rest and regroup.
