Gators visit shot-blocking specialist

New Florida coach Mike White and his staff are on the road recruiting this week during an open September period.

On Wednesday, the Gator staff paid a visit to 7-foot-1 shot-blocking specialist Ike Obiagu, according to Scout.com national recruiting analyst Evan Daniels.

Obiagu is a native of Nigeria playing this season in Decatur, Ga., at Greenleaf Christian Academy. According to most recruiting websites, Obiagu projects as an elite shot-blocker in college, capable of compiling swats on the perimeter as well as underneath the basketball. A Class of 2017 prospect, Obiagu’s offensive skills remain raw, but he has time to develop.

Coaches from Missouri and Connecticut also were on hand to visit Obiagu on Wednesday, according to Daniels. Obiagu has already received scholarship offers from a number of SEC schools, including Florida, Auburn, Georgia, Missouri and Vanderbilt.
