Urban Meyer and the Florida Gators have found a replacement for Charlie Strong. George Edwards, a linebackers coach for the Miami Dolphins, was announced today as the new Defensive coordinator. Florida Gators' assistant Chuck Heater will serve as also Co-Defensive coordinator. Edwards may have been in the NFL for many years, but he has roots in college football and at the University of Florida. I faith in Urban's decision.
"George is a tremendous teacher of the game of football," UF coach Urban Meyer said. "He has proven himself at the highest level in the National Football League, but his roots started at the college level at Florida and in the SEC. He is a great addition to our staff and will be a great coach and mentor to our players."
The linebacking corp has always been one of the strongest units under Urban Meyer and over the past few years. With guys like Brandon Spikes, Channing Crowder, Brandon Siler, Earl Everett and A.J. Jones. The younger linebackers we have no should thrive under Edwards and his ferocious coaching style.
"I'm thrilled to be joining the UF coaching staff," Edwards said. "I started my career at the college level at Florida and I enjoy teaching and molding young men. I am looking forward to working with a great group of people at Florida and a great group of players."
