Florida freshman point guard Kasey Hill was named to the Waymon Tisdale Award watch list, given to the top freshman player in the country.
Hill, a McDonald’s All-American from Eustis, was impressive in first game in a UF uniform, finishing with 17 points, 3 rebounds and 3 assists in UF’s 110-88 exhibition win over Florida Southern. Hill will make his regular season debut Friday when UF opens the season at home against North Florida (3 p.m. tip).
A self-described “humble dude“, Hill has reportedly fit in with his teammates well in practice. He will begin in the season as UF’s starter at point guard with returning senior point guard Scottie Wilbekin serving a disciplinary suspension.
The full Tisdale Watch list can be found here. As expected, four players from Kentucky on the list — guards Andrew and Aaron Harrison, forward Julius Randle and guard James Young.
Oklahoma State guard Marcus Smart won the award last season. Smart returned for his sophomore year and is a preseason AP All-American this season.
