Dwyer football standout Matthew Elam wasted no time with his response. He didn't have to; he knew what he wanted.
When University of Florida football coach Urban Meyer called with an official scholarship offer on Wednesday, Elam immediately verbally committed to the Gators.
Elam, a linebacker and wide receiver, is the only junior on the Sun Sentinel's Super 11 team this year. He's leading the state ranked Panthers in tackles, while also totaling more than 200 yards receiving and nearly 200 yards rushing.
The 6-foot, 205-pound player is one of the state's top recruits from the Class of 2010 and has made it no secret that Florida was at the top of his list.
"UF is where I want to be and that's not going to change," said Elam who realizes how early his decision is in the recruiting process. "I've gone to games and camp there and I want to be a Gator."
Making the decision easier is the fact that the Elam family has known Meyer for at least a decade. Meyer, who was a wide receiver coach for Notre Dame from 1996-2000, was the coach that recruited Abram Elam, Matthew's older brother, to attend Notre Dame. Elam graduated from Cardinal Newman in 2000.
