Notes on 2012 Gator recruit Jessamen Dunker

Florida’s top ranked recruit for the 2012 class is Jessamen Dunker. He’s a 5-star, Top 100 recruit, by the recruiting websites and services. Some have him as one of the fifty best players in the nation for the ’12 class.

Offensive lineman don’t get the glory, but as coach Muschamp has pointed out several times, the SEC is a line of scrimmage league and that is the Gators’ thinnest group on the current roster.

He’ll likely be protecting the corners as a guard at Florida, though he played as a tackle his junior season. He’ll play defensive line as well during this upcoming high school season. He reportedly is planning on graduating in December and hopes to be on the UF campus next winter as an early enrollee.

He's actually only played on season of organized football, so to use a cliche, he's got tremendous upside.

Dunker comes in at 315 lbs and stands at 6-foot-6. Those are NFL type measurements and he appears to have the athleticism to go with it.

Dunker committed to the Gators on March 21, and also has offers from top schools such as Alabama, Auburn, Florida State, Georgia, Miami, LSU, Notre Dame and probably just about any school he wants to play at.

He was recruited by wideout coach Aubrey Hill who Dunker said, “started screaming and yelling” when he told him about his commitment.

Dunker lives in Boynton Beach but recently moved from from East Atlanta, Georgia in 2010.

-ESPN.com's Bruce Feldman has released his annual freak list, which highlights the top workout warriors in college football.

Jeff Demps comes in at No. 1, but there is a surprising tidbit about Chris Rainey.

Writes Feldman, "Demps isn't actually in the top five Gators when it comes to his first 10 yards. Teammate Chris Rainey's is tops, with a 1.49 10-yard split (Demps is at 1.57), but it's Demps' closing speed that is jaw-dropping. His "flying 20" -- which the Gators gauge as a player's electronic time for the final 20 yards of his 40 -- is a blistering 1.76 seconds. (Both Rainey and former Gators speedster Percy Harvin measured in the 1.8s.)."

-ESPN’s College Football Live will show clips from Muschamp’s visit to the Jacksonville Gator Club on Thurday’s edition beginning at 3:30 p.m. ET.
Muschamp will be speaking to the Atlanta Gator club on Thursday night

SEC Notes

-The Gators men's hoops team will play at Syracuse next December 2 as part of the Big East/SEC challenge, the conferences announced Thurday.

-The SEC baseball tournament will remain in Hoover, Alabama.

-The man accused of poisoning Auburn trees has been indicted on six more charges.

-SEC commissioner Mike Slive says he will push over-signing legislation.

-LSU has sold 37,000 tickets for an away game...the 2011 season opener in Dallas vs Oregon.
