Well, a strange kind of "cool" seems to have settled--over the Swamp AND here at GE, it seems, as we start Game 1 of 2012. Kick off, and we're under way. Had 'em back deep, but 1st play gets 'em out; now a 1st down for BG at the 24. Gator "D" looks to be stiffening up already after that 1st down. Here comes 3rd-and-long...short pass, 4th down. Now let's see our offense...

Wasn't to worried about the D, waiting to see how the QB play goes this game. Going to be interesting...

DRU2012 merged the 2 game day threads.
Cool--didn't see the other one...NUTS--Driskel misses Dunbar, THEN they almost get the punt blocked. These Gators seem to have gone back to "beating themselves on offense and special teams" thus far. Time to stop mucking about, guys: "Uh, the SEASON has started, case ya didn't notice..."

This BG team looks pretty solid, do the basics well...they are actually looking steadier on offense than our Gators so far--and our "D" has its hands full shutting them down, THAT'S what REALLY worries me...we are gonna be depending on a superior defense to keep us even in these kind of games until the offense breaks out, and keep us close against the best SEC teams until that offense really begins to come together. Of course if that offense does NOT show great improvement over last year, the defense will get worn down every week--sorta like last year (I get slightly ill just considering that possibility--GEEZ, guys, let's wipe that slate CLEAN!!!)

DAMN! I could see the slant coming against the telegraphed blitz...we can't do that unless it's disguised in that situation!

Our crowd is sitting on its hands--still "depressed" since before kick-off...another crappy 1st qrtr. performance--missed tackle deep--almost scored. Now on 1(!). Gator pressure (finally), but penalty against us...we're gonna go outta this qrtr.down a TD after we let their RB break thru' what seemed like a stop. Elam's down, too--this could be a disaster. WHERE ARE THE "NEW IMPROVED GATORS OF 2012"? This looks a lot like last year's modus operendi: start slow, give visiting "scrappy little MAC team" growing confidence, injuries begin to pile up, and generally appear to stink up the joint...Now we just have to hope they at least manage to pull out of this funk in the 2nd qrtr. of these early games, as they did last year, getting some wins that turned out to be more revealing in what happened early, like so far today, than the eventual wins...
First qrtr. over, and let's face it: This team has seemed to REGRESS from last season, thus far. OK. its REALLY early, but the fact that the visitors were ready to play and we evidently were NOT is EXTREMELY worrisome...Again, even if we manage to pull out of this terrible start and eventually win this thing, that 1st qrtr is a warning to us all.
