Our guy was kneeling on and OVER THE BALL CRADLED IN HIS GUT! "Not long enough" was the commentators' explanation, but it shoulda been sent upstairs, for sure.
But we've found all kinds of ways to get behind in this one. A thorough midgame Gator collapse. If we somehow come back and win this one, it will be an unexpected miracle...
...and Franks proceeds to mismanage play one more time to kill whatever chance we had to steal a few points back at the end.
Franks and the rest of this team have somehow reverted to the level of play they showed during LAST season's mid-schedule slump against UGA and Mizzou--and against MUCH more questionable competition. If this is the best we can manage against a young and inexperienced Miami squad, well, we can kiss those "high expectations" for this year goodbye--and maybe beyond, if they don't turn their attention to a whole lot of changes over the course of this season in order to be ready for NEXT year.
Now, it IS only 13-7. If we can forget all the foolish errors, suck it up, and show not just "the world" but OURSELVES that we are in fact the team glimpsed for a few moments after their first possession, when we took control and appeared to be driving for a 2 score lead before FALLING APART ENTIRELY, we MIGHT still come back here and win this one, regain our balance and PERHAPS put the worst behind us--take it as a warning and a "learning experience" and at least carry on, going forward still with a chance to realize all our hopes and dreams.
It's just that since that first giveaway, there has been NO SIGN that we have that within us after all. And we are now playing a team that is certain it can beat us. I don't know, Gators. NOTHING I have seen SINCE that giveaway gives me cause to expect anything BUT a bad loss.
CAN we "flip the switch"? Who will be the spark? Filipe? Can he even GET it to one of the guys who might?
Frankly, I am now dreading a long, frustrating ordeal of a half marked by failures and miscues. The main question I find myself considering is, "At what point will I have had enough of such an ordeal before I say 'ENOUGH!!!' and turn it off?
I was already pretty damn close by the end of that FIRST half.
