'who just saved the shut out--least for a moment???
I really LOVE that Tom is now linked IN-GAME (espec at home) with the whole "3rd-going-into-FOURTH quarter thing" for us now. If you attended UF anytime after about the early-to-mid-70s you were HYPER-aware of the Gainesville/Gator/Tom Petty connection, and the pride we ALL felt (including Tom HIMSELF, btw) regarding all that. (Me, I still get chills when, whether on recording or in concert he sang on "American Girl", "Yes she could hear the cars goin' by, out on 441, like waves, crashin' on a beach..."...not to mention the whole ALBUM "Southern Accents"--which though one of his lesser-selling records and one whose biggest hits were the songs just sorta "stuck on there extra" like the "Alice in Wonderland" song mainly written and recorded just so he and pal Dave Stewart from the Eurhythmics could shoot a trippy rock'n'roll video together for it, in truth was, for me privately one of my FAVORITE TP albums, replete with intensely PERSONAL songs about the South and growing up down there--that album came out the second summer after I graduated and moved to LA--snd meant all the MORE to me for connectimg me with my OWN roots...)
#13 Feleipe Franks finishes the day 25/27 270 yards 2 TDs with 6 rushes for 37 yards.
Hrnderdon dinged too? Thanks--I'll be digging into our team injury-reports (and bugging my two somewhat reluctant "backchannel sources", medical people who have long contributed volunteer work to the team--and info to US regarding who's hurt how bad, exactly)...THAT "info" will carry us forward with insight (and hopefully relief) through the whole season--its main value to ME is to ease my worries revolving around "the things we CAN'T control" out there...View attachment 438
#11 Florida Gators handled the University of Tennessee-Martin Skyhawks 45-0, but they may have lost both #1 jersey wearers, Kadarius Toney and CJ Henderson, for a few games due to injury. #13 Feleipe Franks was 25/27 for 270 yards and 2 interceptions (96.5 QBR), and he set a record for Florida record for passing completion percentage with 93% (20 or more attempts). The Skyhawks failed to cover the 44.5-point spread, but they did highlight Florida's weakness on the offensive line, which also had some growing pains with procedural penalties.
#11 Kyle Trask was 4/5 for 40 yards, with a touchdown on his first pass coming off the bench. Trask did get away with an incompletion that should have been an interception when he unexplainably stared at a Skyhawks defender and threw the ball right to him and dropped the would-be interception. #5 Emory Jones was only 1/4 for 4 yards, but he was the 4th ranked rusher for the day (behind Franks) with 4 carries for 31 yards and a touchdown. #2 Lamical Perine was the leading rusher with 51 yards off 10 carries and a touchdown.
The Gators get an A all around for execution with the understanding that this was against an FCS team ranked 180th in Sagarin ratings. The playcalling was somewhat conservative, but it was apparent that Coach Dan Mullen was fine tuning some plays as he called various plays out of the same formation, and then would begin alternating similar plays out of very different formations. The offensive line is the only unit worth worrying about as Florida goes on the road for its first SEC game, against the Kentucky Wildcats.
