OK Brantley needs to go.

Yeah, I'm a Reed-supporter who likes a LOT of what I see--then he doesn't recognize a blown coverage or throws a REALLY bad ball under minimal pressure and I wonder if "Maybe THAT'S why they keep flogging Brantley..."--could be just a matter of not having had enough reps with the first team, and/or not being given any real chance at job-experience EXCEPT in-game at full speed with EVERYTHING on the line, in which case he's been a HELL of a lot more impressive than Brantley, if you think about it THAT way.
Anyway, JB hasn't even ATTEMPTED a long pass since the maybe the second or third time Thompson dropped one-in-his-hands way back in games 1 and/or 2. By now #12 appears to absolutely REFUSE to stretch the field. I figure open up the whole playbook to Reed and he'll do a lot better than just "try"; he could hardly do worse, right?

Weis won't let Burton or Reed run the offense. Brantley is going to be the starter next season. Driskel will be the starter in 2012. Reed will go back to being a TE. And Burton will be an H-back.

I say leave Reed at QB and let him compete for the spot. He nor Burton are TEs. The TE is a QBs best friend (especially a struggling one). The majority of JBs picks were intended for the TE position and these guys haven't been taught to sit in a zone. Burton is a slot reciever, too bad we have a glut of guys that can play that position. Muschamp needs to recruit some (they don't need to be 4 stars but the need to be legit TEs not hybrids).

JB needs to win the job. I say this more because i hope this brings out some passion or attitude adjustment (ie born to be the Gator QB vs legacy Gator QB). I still think hes the best QB on our team and i hope Weis (or whoever is officially announced as OC) gets him going in the right direction. Also let him bring back the branstache. Maybe there is some mojo in the stache.

The problem with JB winning the job in the spring is the "no touch" drills. He looked good last spring when he was running plays and wasn't allowed to be hit. It is easy to stand tall when you know the worst that can happen is you get tagged. He's shown that when the hits are for real he is going to cower.

Trey Burton is moving to defense so scratch him off the list. Driskel will be too young. Murphy never really had a shot. So it comes down to Reed and Brantley. I hate to break it to you guys but Reed will never be the starting QB for Weis. It's going to be Brantley again. Hopefully we get a stud OL coach and with a proper playbook Brantley might actually live up to the hype. Get used to it because that's just how it's going to play out. If anyone can make it happen, it's Weis. He has a very long history of making QB's look good.

Exactly.
And exactly WHY you keep Reed competing at quarterback through the Spring and into the '11 season: the coaches HAVE to have SOME kind of a QB competition, and keep Reed around, ready to go even IF JB "wins" the job again in the Spring (as you so well describe, crmixon we've seen this before, and can only hope THIS regime isn't likewise fooled to the point of not being ready with a short leash and a "Plan B", right?).
PLUS, remember: THIS time at least we have a "GOOD ONE" coming in. Sure, ideally we wouldn't rush Driskell into game-experience, maybe even redshirt him if we could. As things stand, though, we have no idea how "screwed" we'll actually BE at QB, nor do we yet know how quickly Driskell will develop. Our new OC will likely have an impact in either or both cases.
I remain skeptical regarding John Brantley, mainly BECAUSE of the "leadership and heart"-question. Weiss is one hell of an offensive mind, a top recruiter and motivator who will maximize any decent QB's skills and potential, but "leadership and heart" is precisely the area that can't really be "coached". Making the kind of dramatic and fundamental changes necessary is a tall order, and almost entirely in #12's own hands--with very little time to get it done.

Zooker, you keep saying this, and though I am with you on certain aspects of your arguments, I think you may be wrong about removing all other alternatives.
Regarding the reasons why I figure they WON'T remove Reed from the QB picture, see my previous post here (above), as well as one I just posted on another thread here regarding the incoming OC and the QB situation.
I understand why you feel that Reed "will NEVER be the starting QB", but I believe it has already been aptly demonstrated how and why you CAN'T give any HINT of "guaranteeing" the job to Brantley again, of essentially HANDING it to him by default. By midway through the last season it was clear what a mistake this was (at least to anyone OUTSIDE the Gator "braintrust"!).
Anything he gets in the way of playing time, ESPECIALLY as the starter, must be earned. I trust Weis to understand this implicitly. Even more so the idea that when it comes right down to it, one guy with greater technical skills but little or no "character" vs. the one who's maybe less of a natural athlete but has passion, charisma and obvious determination, you go with the "leader" every time.

Reed may never be the opening day starter, but he will challenge JB4 under the Weis offense and push JB4. That is all I ask for. Weis would likely yank JB4 mid-season if he sucks, especially if we are in a tail slide with our September-October SEC schedule.

That pretty well sums up how I see it, too, E-.
As for that TOUGH stretch of our '11 schedule and the possibility of less-than-stellar results, I say let's try to brace ourselves for WHATEVER may come our way next season, keeping eyes fixed on 2012 and beyond, when everything we go through in growing pains "now" will eventually pay off BIG time...and looked at that way (as I believe to some extent Chomp, Weis and Co. will themselves have to approach it), JB becomes even more "expendable": he would have to give us "best chance to win", not necessarily a given to start with, and even then, if Driskell is coming along fast enough to warrant it THAT may be the way Weis moves things along.
What was it CHOMP said at his first presser? Something like, "...no 3- or 5-year Plan--we are in building-towards-Championship mode as of right this moment..."

The reason we had the QB switcharoo was because each QB had plays they couldn't make in practice. Brantley couldn't run the ball and Reed can't make certain throws. So when a QB is put in, plays are called that they practiced the snaps for. The problem with Brantley is that he still sucked for the plays he was supposed to make. Reed was decent enough, could run the ball and could make the throws that were asked of him. So the game time comparison looks strongly in favor of Reed. But I don't think Weis is going to be accepting of a scrambling QB who requested a switch to TE because he's not comfortable making certain throws that a QB has to make. I think Weis will try to just improve Brantley's game time performance as a pocket passer since Brantley can make all the throws in practice.

Exactly. We just need one guy to do it all, not have 3 guys who are only good at certain aspects of the job.
