I don't feel sorry for him one bit. He's a loser, and I am glad we dumped his a$$. There is no "almost feel sorry" from me.
Amen. Same here too.
Zook has nobody to blame but himself for what went wrong while he was at UF. He made too many excuses when results were less than desirable, and we heard "it is correctable, and we're getting better and better" way too often. There was no accountability on his part, he wasn't in control, there was no delegation and no sense of trust by the way he micro-managed and often overruled his assistants, and he had too many irons in the fire at one time that he couldn't quite juggle. Not only was Zook a loser, he was clueless.
The kids knew he was a pushover, and they took advantage of that - good examples were the many off-field incidents, Rex Grossman's deterioration due to his party-hardy ways and poor gameday preparation, too much of a relaxed atmosphere at practices and in the weight room, and then "Fratgate". If he and his staff were firmly in charge, we wouldn't have seen "players-only" meetings being called to try and rectify things.
It took Urban Meyer two years to correct Chris Leak's mechanics, get everybody on the same page and get the ship righted - and now we're finally headed in the right direction.
