We need to keep Muschamp around....but only as the DC. That's where his talent lies.
UTx and UF both saw head coaching potential in Muschamp. UTx made him HCIW because Clemson and other schools were going to make him an offer as HC. The point is that Muschamp will never be a DC again unless he goes into the NFL.

Yeah--that ain't gonna happen, and SHOULDN'T...but read my post on this (I think it's on the Gameday thread, if it isn't HERE): I still say he came IN with a sort of "assumed by all"--even himself--that he WAS "the DEFENSIVE guy", and planned to bring in a good strong, experienced and imaginative OC to plan, build and nail DOWN the offensive side of things, but within his guidelines and definite preference for a"pro-style, ball-control offense". First Weis, then Pease were efforts to achieve this in different ways--albeit with first floundering (in Weis' case), and now at best mixed, "jury-still-out" (and "the judge" about to call a "mistrial") results. It's just as baffling why we haven't gotten that "young, up & coming wonderboy offensive genius" at OC as why we've been continuing to repeatedly whiff at recruiting QBs AND receivers...

Weis was no offensive genius nor a great recruiter. He gets credit for Brissett, but Jacoby had his eyes on Florida before Weis. The jury is still out on Pease, but for now he is average. Blame the head coach for some things, but Pease has not grabbed a marquee player or developed a star from mediocrity.

That's a surprise because he worked at Boise State which doesn't land the blue chip recruits. Though don't know how much credit you give him their.

I *think* it is because of the quality of athletes versus the competition. First and foremost, any team can beat any other team on any given day...1 out of 100 times. The difference when you have plenty of blue chip players is that if that game could be played 100 times, your team of better athletes will beat the other team of better athletes 99 times out of 100. Boise State understood that they could not recruit athletes that could beat other teams 99 times out of 100, but they knew they could build teams that could beat other teams 1 time out of 100 knowing that they only had to play 1 maybe 2 really good teams out of 12 or 13 games. That changed the picture. I love Charlie Strong and what he does with everyone else's castaways, but he would not be winning that many games playing an SEC, Pac-12, Big Ten, or Big 12 schedule. FSU and Miami know this. FSU and Miami will counter that they have the most NFL superstars, but that ignores the fact that the traditional powerhouses like Florida, USCw, UTx, etc have more talent over the years in positions that rarely get attention. In other words, FSU and Miami attracts talented QBs, WRs, and LBs that want to make big names in big-name programs that have average players in the less glorious positions without having to go head-to-head with teams full of really good athletes. Look at NFL rosters and watch where the linemen and weakside defenders come from--no-name schools or Florida, USCw, UTx, etc.

I don't think Coach Boom is going anywhere
For now, I think you're right, NG--and I'm still solid in his corner...However, if this season goes south, Pease and that offense will be more and more a millstone around his neck. This is one MORE reason I'd like to see him exert pressure on his OC to begin preparing for NEXT season--from that point forward to use whatever remains of this one to begin developing both the pieces (especially at QB) and plan for that "offense-to-be". NO ONE can argue with the job our Head Coach has done in putting together and developing this superb defense: It'd already be the best-in-nation were it not for injury. I've little doubt it will be damn close to "impossible to score on" by NEXT year...and an offense that was merely "competent", "efficient", would have us playing in 2014's inaugural "Big Game". Find our next QB, build an offense with a passing game that complements what will be an ever-improving and eventually dominant running game, and WE'LL be the next "SEC Dynasty"...There: I said it. I believe that's what Chomp came here to accomplish, and I think it is doable--but only with forethought, toughness-of-character, and vision: the will to make the hard decisions now for the sake of the future.
