Senior Appreciation Thread

I thought since it was the end of the season, we should take time out to recognize some of our departing seniors.

Who is your favorite outgoing senior player? Why? What's your most memorable moment involving that player?

I think I'm gonna have to go with Murph Dawg. It was close between him and CI, but I just heard an interview Murphy gave on the radio and he immediately became one of my all-time favorites. The man is so inspirational. The fact that he played the way he did after he lost his mother. Plus, I didn't know this, but Murphy's birthday fell on Mother's day this year!

There are several plays of Louis Murphy that stand out to me. My favorite one, however, would have to be his touchdown catch against Florida State in 2007. He showed his talent by catching the ball in stride and managing to break a few tackles to fight his way into the end zone.

Thank you Louis Murphy! I hope you have a tremendous NFL career (for the 49ers:tt2:). Keep your head up! I know for a fact your mom is looking down on you beaming with pride!

As often-maligned and even vicious as some Gator fans were towards him, I'm sticking up for Kestahn Moore here. After what he contributed to our 2008 season as a receiver, rusher, special teams player and especially an effective blocker, he redeemed himself for those past mistakes. He was an asset to this team.

Twice this guy made some key receptions against the Vols that were memorable - one in 2007 over a Vol defender, and another this year to pick up some yardage. I've also seen this guy floor some players he blocked.

Coach Meyer thought the world of this kid, and as reserved as he was he was still a leader on this team. I wish him well, and hope to see him from time to time on the sidelines along with some of our other Gator alums.

Thanks again, K-Mo! :)

I'll give some love to the unsung hero's of UF football.

#37 Butch Rowley: a holder, long snapper, and emergency QB, Rowley followed Meyer from Utah. Not many people realize how important of a role he had. Holding takes great concentration, coordination, hands, and quickness. His claim to fame was probably in 2006 when he threw a pass to Tate Casey to convert a 2 point conversion off of a fake PAT vs Vandy

#43 James Smith: a long snapper and special teams player. He was the back-up long snapper for his first year at UF, not a role that gets much respect from anybody. The following year he was the primary long snapper and has been since. His claim to fame came this year when he ALMOST scored a touchdown while playing on kickoff coverage vs. South Carolina. USC tried to throw the ball back across on a kickoff return, but there was Smith, staying with the man, and recovering the ball on the ONE yard line after a bad lateral/throw.

^^^ Nice to show those guys some love. I'm thinking about sending this thread to a buddy of mine in the sports information department at UF. I'm thinking he can pass this along to a few of the guys we mention so they can see what they've meant to us.

However, I'm gonna need a LOT more participation for him to even consider it.

That, and tell him about our community here! :gator:

I think Louis Murphy is worthy of MUCH thanks for everything he did here and the fact that he played through one of the worst times in His life.

I also think that the TEAM player of the century award should go to Kestahn Moore. He was a senior and could have neglected the young backs that came to him for advice. But instead, he helped sheppard young backs who took valuable playing time from him. We are losing a true gem with that guy. He is an absolute class act.

Pehaps we should take the time to thank Phil Tratwein for blocking for our playmakers. He and the rest of the offensive line were the heart and soul of this team. Thank you for what you gave for this team.

We could never forget Tate Casey, a guy who could probably have been the number 1 tight end for just about any other school. Thank you for choosing to stay a gator and be a role player. You are what college football is all about.

Save the best for last right? Well CI... Thank you for all of the plays you have made for this university! We were all heartbroken when you went down with a season ending injury. We all wanted to see you play this season, but thank you for sticking around and being a great captain and leader for this young team.
