"The Steelers have placed the franchise tag on Max Starks, all but assuring that the offensive tackle will return to Pittsburgh for at least one more season.
Starks, who started at left tackle last season after Marvel Smith went down with a back injury, was set to become an unrestricted free agent on Feb. 27.
By using the franchise tag on Starks, the Steelers have the right to match any offer that is made to the fifth-year veteran. They would also receive two first-round picks as compensation if the 6-8, 344-pounder signs with another team."
