3-letter word sends university over the top
Sorry but that is NOT gonna help.

The university formerly known as Florida State has devised a nifty way to cope with the brutal diminution of higher education.
Henceforth, the school shall no longer be just any old state university. Florida State University has been rechristened The Florida State University.
''Makes the joint seem really important, as opposed to the 15,000 imitations,'' said William J. Cloonan, chairman of The Florida State University Department of Modern Languages and Linguistics.
Professor Cloonan's not-quite-enthusiastic interpretation may have deviated a bit in tone from the official explanation, but the substance was the same. Fran Conaway told The Daytona Beach News-Beach Journal last week that the re-designation would be ``a way we can show our pride in who we are and it helps us differentiate ourselves from other universities.''
The Florida State University intends that a certain definition of ''the'' applies. Dictionary.com puts it thus: ``Used to mark a noun as indicating the best-known, most approved, most important, most satisfying, etc.''
The best-known, most important, most satisfying Florida university now has something else in common with an equally pretentious university in Ohio. It has long puzzled football fans during the introductions before a professional game when a player like the Dolphins' Ted Ginn Jr. says, ''the Ohio State,'' asserting ''the'' with the same emphasis I remember women used when they pronounced me ''THE'' (expletive deleted).
Now the two state universities, 835 miles apart, will share something other than the drubbings administered by the University of Florida. Or is that The University of Florida?
