The Sunday Blog comes at you after a long day Saturday on the SEC’s worst road trip. Who let Missouri into the league anyway? Nothing against the people, it’s just logistically a major pain when it’s a night game.
1. But you don’t care about that. You want to talk about your 6-0 Florida football team. The Gators play the best team and the best player they’ll face all year Saturday in Baton Rouge. “This is going to be a real exciting between us and LSU,” said Florida cornerback Jalen Tabor. “A dream of mine to play there in Death Valley, so it should be a good game. Big time SEC matchup.” Again, it feels like Florida is playing with house money.
2. It feels like FSU and Clemson should just go ahead and play rather than wait until Nov. 7. Neither should be challenged before then. And that one should be a doozy. Meanwhile, what are we to make of Al Golden, he of six straight losses to FSU? One problem Miami has is the lack of finances to cut him loose, pay his buyout and then go look for an upgrade.
3. Anyone else starting to wonder if Florida’s defensive under Will Muschamp was more about D.J. Durkin than anybody else? Three straight shutouts for Michigan is pretty impressive. It’s difficult to shut out anybody these days. Not surprisingly, Michigan leads the nation in the most important defensive stat — scoring defense. Florida’s not too shabby itself, ranking 11th despite giving up 27 to Tennessee.
4. If there is a common theme to Georgia’s struggles, it is the number 38. Georgia has lost five games in the last two seasons and in four of those losses the opponent has scored 38 points. That’s not winning defense. Still, if the Bulldogs can get it turned around, I don’t think this SEC East race is over by a long shot. Unless Florida beats LSU. Then, it’s over.
