Thoughts around the conference?

  • Florida looked much improved on offense for the first half. Although they did not go as deep as the fans would have liked, they did throw beyond the sticks. The running game continued last year's theme of controlling the clock and the line of scrimmage. The kicking and punting game are worrisome. DJ Humphries looks undersized as Driskel's bodyguard. The defense looks nasty as ever up front and in the secondary. The team should be even better next week with the return of more players.
  • Alabama looked very vulnerable. They have one good player and a bunch of so-so players.
  • aTm has zero defense. They are all offense. Impressive offense. They look like the best team in the West.
  • LSU looks as good as they did last year. They will be a challenge for the Gators.
  • USCe has some work to do, but is still dangerous. Clowney did not work on conditioning at all. I cannot wait to see the Gators expose their freak.

Miss St especially Dan Mullen are in trouble after losing to OK State but not as much as UK and Mark Stoopes losing to WK with Bobby Petrino.

MSU looked horrible! Put Mullen on the hot seat. Even with a QB getting evaluated for concussion, none of the gameplan was working. It looked as if State's football team took the year. No recruiting, no conditioning, no execution.
Kentucky gets a bye due to coaching change.
Auburn gets a bye due to coaching change.
Tennessee was good against its FCS opponent, but it did not reveal much.
Vandy did not look as spunky as the past few years.
Ole Miss looked good. Too good.
Mizzou looked okay.

it reminds me of the All Access show I watched on their program. They walked in his HUGE office and he is in there with that f****** smug on his face with his bare feet kicked up on his desk watching "film". Just made me think how mad I would be if my LOSING coach was having fun right before the opener like there was nothing to worry about. lol

that's a contradiction. especially since they played each other in a real good game. I think they are both better than last year, but will not fair well in the SEC play.

Here is my SEC East predictions, biased and unfiltered:

SEC East

Florida (8-0) - I really think we will get it done this year. We showed huge leaps in the air already, and I seriously think our RB core will explode in the next few games. Better yet, I think we'll face Urban Meyer and OSU.

South Carolina (6-2) - Georgia will have something to prove next week @ home. Then Florida will give them their 2nd loss. Since Clemson will be in the driver seat by the time they play, South Carolina will have something to play for and will upset Clemson.

Georgia - (7-1) - Their loss to Clemson will give them the fire to beat USC. They also lucked out and got them at home, along with LSU. I thnk their only loss will come from Florida in a revenge served cocktail party.

-UPDATE-

This might let everyone feel a little better. Muschamp purposely went "flat" on Offense in the 2nd half to control time. Mainly he did this because of what Toledo can do, and how our Defense was missing a few key players. Here is the quote and link to article.

"We wanted to run the ball because of what they do offensively,’’ Muschamp said. “We did not want to get into an 80-, 90-play deal [for our defense]. Obviously we were down some defensive players."

This eases most of my worry knowing that we held back on the playbook.

@NaffGutts,
I see it similarly, if more cautiously (with certain conditions having to do with our coming along, growing and gelling at a certain minimum pace--and even all of that is just part of my nature early in a season where so much remains-to-be-seen)--But MAN, I WANT you to be totally spot on SO badly...

Eventis sultorum magister.
I think they went very plain on offense to show Miami much to work on. Also loved it that the UGA ly top receiver went down with a torn ACL after hot dogging after the first TD.

I think the teams that everyone should worry about are Vandy and Ole Miss personally. They have some depth and some talent that may shock some folks if they are gone un noticed.

The SEC is really wide open, I agree that Alabama has a bunch of so-so players.

If Florida can grow and get better, this can be our year were we quietly sneak up and represent the SEC East in Atlanta.
