Two Florida assistants get raises

News Bot

News Bot
Florida assistant coaches Matt McCall and Rashon Burno both earned well-deserved raises in 2013.

McCall received a $25,000 bump to $165,000 per year, while Burno earned a $10,000 raise and will make $140,000 this season.

Entering his third season as an assistant at UF, McCall was largely responsible for the recruitment of the freshman McDonald’s All-American tandem of point guard Kasey Hill and forward Chris Walker. Walker enrolled at UF over the weekend and will appear in games once he’s cleared by the NCAA.

Burno, in his second season as a UF assistant, helped convince guard Eli Carter to transfer from Rutgers to UF and was involved in the recruitment of five-star forward Devin Robinson (Christchurch, Va.) to UF’s 2014 class.

Florida lead assistant John Pelphrey’s salary will remain at $180,000 for the third straight season. Pelphrey is in the final year of a three-year buyout after being fired at Arkansas that pays him $600,000 annually. Under terms of the buyout, Arkansas will play the remaining $420,000, which takes into account Pelphrey’s salary at UF.

All three coaches will earn additional $10,000 apparel bonuses from Nike and can earn performance bonuses this season that include 10 percent of salary for UF reaching the NCAA Tournament round of 64, 15 percent of salary for advancing to Sweet 16, 25 percent of salary for reaching the Final Four and 30 percent of salary for winning a national title. Assistant coaches also can receive a $1,500 bonus for a graduation rate of more than 85 percent for players.

The UF assistant coach salaries were obtained through an open records request.
