UF's crowded depth chart

Yes, it sucks for some high-schoolers who had a lifelong dream to be a Gator, but the depth chart is looking good for the Gator Nation as a whole. UM is building a team that will remain strong for quite a while.

Look at the SOW--lots of talent, but no depth since their last BCS game. Better yet, look at UF in the 90s--lots of talent, not enough depth to be dangerous every year outside of the SEC.

Yeah I just don't get it. If you are a highly touted High School football player and Uf is recruiting you, the only reason not to go is if you know you are not good enough.

Exactly. If you are afraid of the challenge, then we don't want you. We only want the best--the ones who have fought to get to their positions. I don't care if you have worn Gator gear since you were in diapers. If you don't rise to the occasion, then you're not worthy. That's how the world works.

Great recruiting on behalf of Coach Meyer and his staff has built up our depth chart to the point that we have good rotation at each position; with the exception of QB due to Cam Newton leaving the team we're down one string at QB but have Jordan Reed incoming for 2009, so I see that slot being filled.

We weren't hit that hard by graduation after this season and only Percy Harvin left early for the NFL, so we have a LOT of talent returning. So many of these kids being recruited want to play right away, but for some teams that won't happen, which is likely the case with UF's Class of 2009. Patience is a virtue, and if these kids won't mind being redshirted should they not be able to play right away, then they shouldn't be discouraged from committing to the Gators if they have the skillset to succeed and are otherwise UF material.

We're at the point where we pretty much need to "reload" for the next couple of years, so we're in great shape player-wise.

i agree with everyone on here.. if they believe in themselves and they're good enough, they'll play and can prove to meyer they deserve the starting position. i think having a deep depth chart is good cause it makes the starters work harder so they don't lose their starting spot. and it makes the backups work harder so they can start or have more playing time being in the rotation more.

The next question is, "how long can UM continue to provide this rich depth chart?" If he can keep it going, we can be a dynasty like Nebraska of the '90s, Miami of the '80s, and Alabama of the '70s. Until we get to that point, the rest of the football world will not treat us with the same respect as the aforementioned teams.

As long as (1) Florida continues to win, and (2) Coach Meyer and staff can continue to attract the top talent with the same skill and enthusiasm they do now, I only see upside.

As far as the rest of the football world disrespecting us, let them. If they're that jealous of our recent success, then let them kick their programs up a notch and become more competitive.
