Maybe Burton will replace Hill. The kid can learn complete schemes overnight. His football IQ is off the chart and he's an incredible athlete. I'm hoping he develops into the next Eraser.
It's always "feast or famine" out there at S, so I don't like to get too down on these young speedsters who play it, but Hill repeatedly missed the coverage on the other team's "hot" WR at crucial points the last few games this past season, releasing him to make a big play--often on "3rd and forever" late in games! That gets old.
Putting Burton out there is an interesting thought. I don't doubt he has the smarts to learn it, the skills to manage it, or the "stones" to face it--but do you put a guy who's never played the position on the spot that way? More to the point, will Chomp and Co. do it?
Well, he played free safety in high school. The free safety needs to watch the play unfold and zoom in or back out as necessary. With his extensive knowledge of QB, RB, WR, and TE, maybe that will translate to good game sense in sniffing out offenses and anticipating the plays. True, he did struggle with the zone-read as a QB, but he figured out the soft spots to make nice catches. As a strong safety, he could use his knowledge of the TE position and possibly some insight from QB to close in on those soft spots. As a free safety, he certainly is fast enough to be the last line of defense...more so than a certain player whose name rhymes with Hill Will.
John Lynch was recruited by Stanford to play QB. He ended up switching to Safety. We all know how that turned out.

he's got a family and kids to look after i dont blame him
but if he goes higher then black that would be messed up
I think it's a safe bet that Black will be drafted ahead of Hill.
