GAINESVILLE, FL -- Two Florida Gators, a basketball player and a football player have been arrested on drug charges.
Authorities arrested Brandon James and Brandon Powell during an undercover drug sting Monday night.
Both face charges of possession of a controlled substance and possession of less than 20 grams of cannabis.
James is a sophomore running back for the national champion Florida Gators football team. He starred at St. Augustine High School.
As a senior he rushed for 900 yards and eight touchdowns in leading St. Augustine High School to its first-ever state championship.
In the 2006 season, James played as the primary punt and kick returner for the Gators as a true freshman.
Powell is a sophomore guard from Memphis for the back-to-back national champion Florida Gators basketball team.
