Yeah, this turned out to be a pretty fair fore-sight of what SHOULD have been the final score out there today--in fact, had E- taken into account the inevitable Gator "big-time-screw-ups-at-crucial-moments" factor, therefore subtracting one TD for us and adding a score to THEIR side, he hits it practically dead on. Add in the Brantley injury in the 2nd half and its effect on Weis' game plan, and the already "half-of-'em-accurate" stats become "all-of-'em-right-on-the-nose"!
We STILL left significant "points-on-the-field" out there in the first half, and it nearly cost us badly in the 2nd. We STILL had our share of bone-headed breakdowns at crucial moments in the game, and THAT cost us too, gave them hope, territory and kept them in the game on several occasions. We STILL watched lackadaisical play in both our WRs on offense and our coverage guys on defense, watched portions of that defense take whole series off as the game went on, first in lazy frustration at being out played by Rogers and HIS receivers, then in lazy arrogance once they figured OUR offense had already won it for them.
Here's the "bottom line", Swamp: even in victory, this is a Gator team that is no fun to watch--in fact, is infuriating in its attitude, its lack of drive, honor, self-pride and self-discipline. The fact that they are also too small and not even particularly talented even for their size as it has turned out (Meyer, whether because of laziness himself and/or an over-stressed, distracted and health-afflicted attention to other , more personal problems, went by all the "experts" ideas of who was "talented" his last couple of drafts, rather than go out and find out who really "had the goods", as he--or more likely his old staff--once did), has left us drowning in guys who were at best over-rated under-achievers, who were doomed to injury and failure in the SEC to BEGIN with, and their one main shared trait, "lack of Character", doomed our whole program the last 2 years...and Meyer KNEW it, at least on some level...That's why he wanted out after '09, then made good for real when 2010 confirmed his fears. I'd have had SOME respect if he'd come right out and copped to it last year at his resignation news conference, but as it is, I have no further use for the guy: I give him props for the '06 Championship (with Zook's players) and for '08 (with Tebow and that class he and his staff brought in the first 2 years they were here). so overall, in my view, it's a "wash".
Now we're left "in the red", our Head Coach and his staff having to slowly, painfully navigate one of the toughest schedules in the country with a bunch of losers that need to be cleared away ASAP and new guys, their KIND of guys, found and brought in quickly in almost unprecedented numbers this recruiting cycle and next (especially this coming one--fortunately, there is every sign that they are on the way of accomplishing just that: an amazing class may very well be in the offing).
There is so much work to be done, and every sign that this staff is HARD at work all OVER the place to make it happen, with only their plans' execution and eventual evidence of the results to show that they are on the right road they themselves believe in, that I have little patience with people who are so quick and ready to fry them now, before ANY of it can be fully begun, let alone demonstrated...and I sure don't care to see it repeated over and over ad infinitum here at the Envy--we're BETTER than that here! If that IS their opinion, fine, state it once or twice, but once you know that people have read/heard your point, and generally don't buy into it, LEAVE IT ALONE. That sort-of-thing is gathering momentum all over the other Gator-sites. I say, "You're welcome to your opinion, and you're welcome to continue INTELLIGENT discussion with us here at Gator Envy, but your obsessive one-note/one-opinion yammering is NOT welcome here!" There are plenty of sites for that sh*t: take it over to "Swamp Things" and "Gator Bytes" and the like. What do YOU think, SP? Do you agree? (I know aweb does, and at least a FEW others, JUST as strongly as I do).
