Florida vs Alabama

First post in this forum. I've got a buddy from Alabama who wants to come with me to the game. I'm a Gator, but he's an Alabama fan. How much crap is he going to get if he sits on the student side with me?

He'll get roundly teased, for sure--but it'll be cool as long as y'all take it with good humor; you, a Gator being there with him will help to "buffer" and keep it all friendly.
One caveat: If it gets as tense as I expect this game to get, close and with the TIDE pulling ahead, wearing down our defense in the 2nd half, he'd do well not to gloat...in that event, don't overdo it on beer--just in case you need to "read the signs" and get out of there in the 4th qrtr.
Of course, not everyone agrees with my analysis of the likely trends in this game. If we're winning all will be well and happy. They'll mostly pat him on the back and say "Good game!" and "We got ya this time!"

Definitely going to get some comments passed his way. Nature of the beast. AND you have to conference teams playing each other which should amplify the situation. Also, it depends how lippy your friend gets, lol. :)

My experience with all heated rivalries (as a host and a visitor), is this; don't give any worse than you're getting. A little smacktalk is alright, but don't be the guy who escalates it. And, for the love of football, don't gloat if things get out of hand, score-wise.

Also, the advice regarding alcohol is wise.

Pretty nervous about this game. Bama has looked good.
...and let's face it: even against inferior (to us) competition, our passing game has not.
(Does ANYONE think we can win this game without opening up our passing game? Is anyone optimistic about us doing so?)

(Again: don't get me wrong...I am proud and impressed with our "D", and IF we can keep them off the field a reasonable portion of the game--we don't have to WIN the time-of-possession battle, just hold our own--we will have a decent chance in this game, especially in the Swamp...BUT for that I believe we MUST (1) not let them get away with trying to stop our offense with their basic defense, and (2) break their "load-the-box-/dare-'em-to-pass" strategy which I see Saban planning if/when #1 doesn't work...if #1 DOES work, we're screwed from the get-go; and to break #2 we have to pass, early and often, and do it well.)

Welcome to the forum first of all. Second of all you need to choose better friends.

I will be your friend and I happen to be off on Saturday(hint hint wink wink elbow elbow)

This is going to be a GOOD TEST for our boys. I am glad this is a home game. Because the next game, LSU, is on the road and that is going to be even harder!

Just be respectful. I have been the one sitting on the wrong side, and been the one next to that guy. In an SEC game, it is okay to consort with the enemy. Not so sure if it were FSU.

Right--especially the FSU part: questionable if they'd even want to BE there with you, no matter what the circumstance...just how it is.
I know that when one DOES go into an away game against certain teams, you do it with a buddy (or three)--and at least TRY to arrange tickets in the Gator section ahead of time, if possible, and even then, depending on the opponent, y'all have to be "aware".
The worst though was Miami in the old Orange Bowl. Won't go into it here (I've talked before about being at the notorious game in (I think) '81, the one that was "the final straw" as far as the UF Regents were concerned, when all the reports from fans and boosters poured in afterwards, and they basically cancelled the longtime annual game, effective at the end of the then current contract--THAT'S why we've seldom played 'em since), but that was bad--as in fight-your-way-out-of-the-stadium, find-your-tires-slashed bad.
The Swamp ain't ANYTHING like that--it'll be "loud'n'proud", but as long as your friend is good natured, everything should be fine most of the way. Mind my warning about if we ARE behind regarding beer and the 4th qrtr., though--just in case.

...BTW, here is an old chant we would aim specifically AT 'Bama fans when they came to the swamp (and yes, 5 of us absolutely infuriated a section of Tide fans with it in Tuscaloosa one year). It works mainly because it is rhythmically identical to one the Tide-fans themselves chant, and is sophomorically puerile like a good counter-cheer should be:
"Around the bowl and down the hole: Roll, Tide, Roll!!!"
Yeah, well, not exactly Shakespeare but fun and effective, trust me...Try it! If they come to OUR place and sing out the one that inspired it (as some will, beyond your friend), they've got it coming.
