F*CK--we LET him get in! THAT is EXACTLY why we lose these games! Now it all comes down to the onsides kick--when we could have won it on THAT play with a tackle of a greedy receiver...instead, he's potential hero--created by US!

As far as I'm concerned, they pretty well wasted this game, as far as unveiling anything meaningful for next year. Aside from its benefits for practice and recruiting, that was pretty foolish and short-sited.
We know nothing more about NEXT year's Gators than we did BEFORE the game--and neither do the coaches, really, and THAT'S the problem.
Oh well, it IS better than losing. That's about as enthusiastic as I can get about the experience. Here's hoping that all the big choices in front of us turn out better than the ones behind. Happy New Year, my friends, and GO GATORS!!!

Meyer went on a tour when he started at ESPN. In that tour, he sampled some teams that still have an effective zone-read offense, or that run a hybrid thereof. He visited Utah, which just scrapped the full-time zone-read that Meyer installed in 2003. There, he probably learned from his former protege, Kyle Whittingham. He also visited Michigan, which scrapped its zone-read for some hybrid thereof. Also on that tour was Oregon, which is killing the Pac-12 with what is still a zone-read offense. He visited Texas, which has been known to implement a zone-read when a Vince Young lands on its lap. Notre Dame was on the list just because.
The point here is that Urban was taking notes so he can adapt his zone-read to modern times. He will likely scrap the zone blocking and use pro-style blocking. He tried to do that with the 2010 offensive line, but it failed because his players were accustomed to the zone blocking. He will likely scrap the scatback portion of his Utah attack, since he picked that up at Florida. He will probably keep the counters, traps, and pulls that worked at Bowling Green, Utah, and Florida. He will keep the mobile QB. Two things he will keep from Florida are the Harvin-back and the Aaron Hernandez tight end. Since he is friends with Bill Belichik, he may modify the offense to have an Aaron Hernandez and a Rob Gronkowski. I have a lot of faith in Urban Meyer to resurrect yet another team. That is what he does, and he does it with his own system.
Compare that to Will Muschamp. The verdict is still out on him. What does he bring to Gainesville? What did he write the book on? He borrowed the Texas 3-4/ Hybrid defense, but Dan Quinn is implementing it. He cannot claim the Florida offense, especially if he is not letting the incoming OC swap out the Weis offense.
Well, given how MUCH Muschamp surrenders in control of his offense to the OC, THAT hire is of PARAMOUNT importance. He IS a defensive mastermind, after all--and that is already starting to show. I wish he had SOME kind of vision for the offense, too, something more than "Pro-style, for recruiting and ball-control"--strikes me that there is no real connect there for him, and THAT leads to the kind of floundering we saw on offense this year if the OC isn't up to it. In fact, let's face it: the OC is in effect a co-Head Coach in all but name. If he gets the right guy, it won't be a problem, necessarily--but that is a big "IF", a crap shoot, to some extent.
Well, he either gets it right this time or he's gone in two years, let's face it. If I were him, though, and faced that reality. I'd take a BIT more personal hand in the actual creation and implementation of that offense--but then again, I'm a hands-on "control-type" in my professional capacities...I thought that's what a good Head Coach tended to be, as well, but I guess there are other ways of doing it, knowing your strengths and delegating responsibility to talented, dedicated people--but you DAMN well better find them, in that case.

I won't miss Brantley. OC hire will be paramount for next year. Figure it will be somebody already running this type of offense, so things should move forward. Weiss was a total let down, and I am amazed at the lack of imagination that was prevalent this year on offense regardless of what Meyer "left in the cupboard"
Is anybody watching Oregon? Their offense looks very similar to Florida's Urban Attack from 2005-2010 mixed with elements of Florida's Weis Offense in 2011. It is very possible that the Suckeye offense under Urban Meyer will look like Oregon next year.

Michigan did alright with a similar offense in the same conference. If Urban Meyer paid attention, he can make his own offense work using lessons learned from Florida. For one, he absolutely needs a dual threat quarterback, not a pro style. He needs a Deshawn Wynn running back or a Percy Harvin h back. Finally, he needs misdirection. Hard to mis direct when you only run a dive, inside toss, and qb draw...all up the 1 gap.
Some statistics from the game compared to the season:
Florida averaged 25.58 points per game during the regular season, but only scored 24 against tOSU...14 by special teams.
Florida averaged 334.17 yards per game during the regular season, but only had 263 against tOSU.
Florida averaged 144 yards per game on the ground during the regular season, with a 4.01 YPC, but only managed 131 yards rushing with a YPC of 3.4 in the bowl game.
Florida averaged 190 yards passing per game, YPA of 7.51 and INT% of 3.95%. Against tOSU we only had 132 passing, but a YPA of 8.3, and and INT% of 6.25% as we were outgunned by a mediocre freshman.

No he did but a win is a win especially against those suckeyes. Thanks to Meyer, my new favorite Big 10 team is whoever beats those nuts. Also sure I add, Meyer did win the title with Chris Leak at quarterback who was a pocket passer though to be fair he is getting his wish because Braxton Miller is a dual threat. Those TOSU vs. Michigan game should be interesting next season. Like to add that, the D sacked Miller more times than dare I said the 2006 team did with Smith and thank you to the special teams for not tackling Debose after he scored.
First, in answer to your direct Q, E-:

Your stats only flesh out and explain exactly the impression I got of that offensive performance as I watched it--as we ALL got watching it, judging by a quick review of our comments above in-game: With almost a month to prepare, all he managed to come up with was a warmed-over version of Weis' ill-conceived and stubbornly-conservative offense that ranked near the bottom of the whole NATION'S offenses (something like 104th?). I'll say this only once more: all it would have taken for us to have won 9-10 games this past season was an AVERAGE offense, something worthy of maybe a ranking in the low 30s or so in that list--mediocrity, basically, and Weis couldn't even manage THAT. If White really wanted the job, you'd think he'd have gone for some kind of improvement, a few wrinkles and imagination at LEAST? As someone pointed out during the game, and has been repeated since, Brian White wants to stay on here "and would be happy to do so in his present capacity"...well, that's about all he's (barely) made a case for. "NEXT!"
On that note and moving on, I'm not sure WHAT to make of some of the names being thrown out there for the OC job. Personally, I'm no more enamored of Schottenheimer being considered than I am Shula. I'd rather see one of these younger up-and-comers making a lateral move from successful big-time programs; I'm not so sure some of the REALLY young guys also being talked about, ones from WAY smaller programs are the way to go either--they probably just aren't quite ready, need a stint as assistants at a big time program (like ours) FIRST, otherwise just too much of a risk, now. Coach Muschamp HAS to get this right--for our sake AND for his own, at this point. I figure he's got two more years to get us into the SEC/National Championship mix/discussion once more--even "pretty good" won't get it done by 2013.
In other words, he would do well to be a little more daring than he was with that Weis-hire, get someone who is both hungry AND has enough experience at this level to take it all in stride, has a vision of his own as to what he wants to achieve on offense--and is in it for the long haul, will stay and see it through. We need imagination AND stability.
Finally, I just wanted to comment on the bowl season in general thus far, especially the "big" BCS games: Is this a WACK collection of match-ups, or what?!! I mean, even the one that looked OK going in, No.3 vs. No.4 (Fiesta? They've already all blurred together in my memory) turned out to PROVE that the all-SEC Rematch/BCS Championship was the right way to go--NEITHER of those teams could play ANY defense! The rest have been just pathetic, mostly clumsy bad games--No. 11 vs No.13, No.15 vs. No.23, etc.: what IS this crap? The worst of it was that NONE of the teams I've watched here have impressed me in the SLIGHTEST. Bad as the Gators were this year, I am now more sure than ever that with better "luck" injury-wise and a committed OC with some brains and some balls, even THIS Gator squad could have done some damage this past season--at least compared to the collection of mediocrities that have been paraded by us this past week or so. Hell, the only two teams that really BEAT us (instead of us beating ourselves, as we did in all the other losses) are playing for that BCS Championship next Monday.
What do Y'ALL think? Am I so far off base here?
Keep in mind that the majority of fans just want video game scoring. They think defense is boring, or if the score is 9 to 6 that both teams suck, rather than assuming these are two NFL caliber defenses squashing two college offenses. They assume that a perfect college football game score is 55 to 53, not 9 to 6.
I read somewhere that the main reason Weis had to leave Florida was the heat and humidity...health reasons. I thought about that for a second and realized that the article was onto something. Weis liked sitting in the booth because he could avoid that 90 degree, 90% humidity swamp in the air conditioning, but his young players needed that on field interaction. Hmmmm.
Compare that to the other coaches. There is a video on Gator Vision of the coaches suited up playing against one another in drills! The DB coach lined up against the WR coach, and the OL coach played king of the hill against the DL coach. It was fun to watch, and illustrated the interaction that Weis could not give.
The Weis offense still might work at Florida. That offense is actually the Ernhardt Perkins "New England" Offense. Many teams use it. I estimate that one fourth of the NFL uses that same offense, just with different type of players. Weis had to fit Demps and Rainey into the offense, but was stubborn about using them at the same time. I would bet that mixing Demps and Joyer or Rainey and Burton or Gillislee would have worked better.
