Greetings from a Sooner Fan

its because of the big 3 its a disaster we have enough rich ppl to buy season tickets and sellout games, but the Lions are not improving and will not make any BIG changes, Matt Millen firing is not the solution.

thats the only reason i liked the bears somewhat, Also Alex Brown plays for them to. I dont follow NFL really just watch it sometimes, not as good as College i think to watch, but its a huge economical thing. and the Lions are hurting the state.

the #1 team is Boise st or Utah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wanna talk about whiners? Try Boise State - they keep on and on about getting "hosed" out of the big games, but let's see how well they'd do in a BCS conference week after week. It's easy for them to get on their soapbox about being undefeated, but then again it's easy to win when you're playing against cupcakes.

I'm glad they got passed over by Utah.

Yes, back on topic - FWIW Urban Meyer voted Oklahoma #1: http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/other/sfl-flspcoachvote09sbdec09,0,4668434.story

Awesomeness
The Big 12 offenses do not have a knack at just committing turnovers, well unless you are Booger Daniel and Missouri.

Other than that...most of the turnovers for OU have been earned and well disciplined play.

With me not trying to sound arrogant or disrespectful. I think Florida is a damn good team. They are deserving of the hype. But Their defense has not faced an offense like that of the Sooners. In fact NOBODIES resume in any BCS Conference is as impressive as the Sooners.

6 of 13 games against top 20 BCS ranked teams.
5-1 in those games.

Many experts will say that the Big 12 is better than the SEC, and the Big 12 South is the toughest division in college football. So please do not act like the defense Florida is bringing to the table is god-like. They have their flaws. And Kevin Wilson and Sam Bradford will find and exploit those weaknesses.

This is true that Florida has not faced an offense like the Sooners all season long. Why can't you accept the fact that OU has not faced a defense like Florida's all year long? The best defense the Sooners have faced all year was TCU. And the Horned Frogs held you guys to your lowest scoring output all season long. I can tell you right now Florida's D is a lot faster and more athletic than TCU's. I don't know of anyone making Florida's D out to be "god-like" as you say. I just know we are better defensively than any team on your schedule.

leakbrewergator,

My post previously touched on this subject, but I'll try again from a different angle.

You claim TCU's defense is the best D we've faced all year. I honestly doubt you even believe this. I understand you'll be able to fire out a brazilion stats to back up the claim, but come on, really.....TCU.

TCU plays in a different league, therefore they're not facing the offense the Big12 defenses are subjected to on a weekly basis. I honestly doubt you believe TCU is fielding a vastly superior D than Texas, Nebraska, and OSU. Given that you're not watching the big12 every week, you're probably assuming Baylor and Tech don't play sound defense either. It's all relative to what style of offense you're facing week in and week out.

TCU gave up 3 TD's in the first quarter, and we started working on our run game. Our run game and O-Line were exposed, then exploited in the Texas game when we weren't able to inflict our will. I freely admit this. The next game was Kansas, and we continued to emphasise the run, and Demarco FINALLY started to look like his pre-injury self. By the time we played K-state, our O'line was opening holes, and Murray was back to form. All teams evolve and progress throughout the season, and OU is no different.

I'm not knocking your teams super fantastical defense, but I'm not sitting here thinking that just because Tulane allowed 172 yards against Alabama, and you allowed 323, that you're defense is worst than Tulane. Stats are going to say what you need them to say when you need them to say them.

My Sooner point of view is:

Our O is as good as your D with a slight edge to OU
Your O is as good as our D with a slight edge to UF
Your Specials are better than our specials, no question.

Funny thing about Kevin Wilson... He is leaving

Yeah, anyone who's put together an Offense as good as Wilson's is going to earn a coaching gig. He's done a great job, and our assistants move on to HC positions whenever we get to the National Title game, it comes with the territory.

I find it funny that he's going to Miss St, according to some around here, his O doesn't stand a chance against the speed of SEC defense. If you read my first post on this board, you'll see where I assumed as much after the success Florida is having with their non-traditional offense in SEC country.

Well he will learn and adapt to the SEC defenses this offseason if he comes else Miss State will be like they were this season. At least thats one less position we do not need to worry about our coaches leaving to, Only Syracuse, Auburn, UCF (maybe) but other then that i do not think any coaches will be leaving.

I think it's fair to say this

In the big12, the defense had to learn and adapt to the Leach offense, which was more or less adopted by Tech, OU, Kansas, Baylor, and Missouri. Colorado, Nebraska, UT, and Iowa State all throw the ball more than they did 8 years ago as well.

Has Urban "learned and adapted" his offense to deal with SEC defense? Didn't he go 9 and 3 his first year and pick up a national championship his second?

Sounds familiar, oh that's right, I believe Bob did about the same thing in the big12 in his first two years.

In my opinion, Urban didn't have to change his offense, it's the defense that has to "learn and adapt"

Coincidentally, the two year success is a trend that happens quite a bit. Carroll, Weis, Urban, Stoops, Miles, Saban, and Tressell all came in and had success in the second year. I believe in the first year, you inherit the leftover players who were recruited by a coach that was unsuccessful (with the exception of Miles/Saban). The kids that commit to a non-hot coach generally dreamed of going to their university regardless of who was at the helm. Whereas after a coach has had a certain degree of success, they tend to recruit the best talent from all over the country. The number of primadona's go up, and the number of kids who would living their dream to play football at their dream school goes down.

The outlier in this recent trend is Mack Brown, who did win a MNC after being with the program for a while. Texas wasn't the "hot team" when Vince Young and the kids who won the MNC committed to Texas, OU was.

There's certainly something to be said for hometown boys playing out of their minds for the school they love, especially given a chance to play under an exciting new coach with a system that is unique (excluding Tressell)

First off, let me start by saying I have watched Big XII football every week. I watch every conference every week.

yes. I do believe TCU is the best defense you guys have faced all season long. Better than Nebraska and Oklahoma St by far, and better than Texas only slightly. I'm pretty sure I'm not alone on this sentiment. So you're saying Baylor plays sound defense?? A 4-8 team??? I guess......

You're definitely not alone on that one LBG

Let me just get OU fans' response out of the way now:

Mahxfahn, don't you know those statistical rankings are a product of the amazing offense that's being played in the Big XII? All those teams have great defenses, they're just unfortunate enough to be stuck in the high-powered Big XII. The fact that these teams had to face the conglomerate that is Sooner offense alone is enough to bring their defensive ratings down. If you were to take any of those teams and put them in any other conference they would all be in the top 20 defensively....

Yep, top 20 in the same conference as their first opponent maybe.

So TCU is better than EVERY SEC DEFENSE?

Is "you've never seen anything like our defense" and "TCU is the 2nd best defense in the country" a contradiction?

Once again, I'm big on keeping things in perspective.

Did we score more in the first quarter of the TCU game than any team scored against them all year long? Yes

Do I believe this an indication of OU vs FL? NO

Did we commit to running the ball right into the middle of the line, (when they continued to stack 8 in the box) to test our running game once we had a comfortable lead and established that Bradford can throw a football? Yes

Will we commit to running the ball with 8 in the box when a championship is on the line? NO

Does anybody find it the least bit funny that the big12 is below every conference, major and midmajor in total defense?

You can believe whatever you'd like, we thought USC was a panzy and played in the weak ass Pac10 before recieving the ass whipping of a lifetime.
