Head Coach

Well I try not to overreact and post to much when I'm in my feelings, but is anyone else thinking it's time to look for a new Head Coach?
I just don't see Mac putting us back on the map.
If I were to make a list of candidate's that I think are realistic, this would be my wish list for our new leader.
1. Chip Kelly
2. Dan Mullen
3. Jeff Brohm

Thoughts????

Coach Mac was brought in to revitalize the offense. How's that working out so far? He wants us to be Alabama and that ain't who we are. Time to move on. Sadly that would mean 2-3 more years of wait till next year.

I too try not to jump too far too fast in reaction to one loss, especially right after the game in question...the next morn even more so.
But I'm with you on feeling it is time to "put it out there", at least. He was brought in to revamp an offense that was deep in a growing trend downward--and in his 3rd year, it not only hasn't improved, IT CLEARLY IS HEADING FURTHER IN THAT DIRECTION, is getting worse. Glaringly so.
Not sure on our choices "beyond Mac", but it is SURELY time to begin openly, if somewhat carefully/conditionally considering the question AND our future.
I make this very case in detail in my latest post on "MAC: Wake UP!!!"

Yes. The question in fact becomes:
"2 or 3 more years...or NEVER?"
As one of the points I note in this morning's post over in "MAC: Wake UP!!!", I really begin to think Mac may not even really HAVE "National Championship" on his radar--that like many, even most coaches for whom a program like UF's is taken for the money, yes, and beyond that perhaps a "CHANCE at Championships", but that's about IT. That the "prestige" of eventually "being in the mix" is enough to solidify their career and rep, and that coming even close to such "almost" goals should be good enough for US.
IT IS NOT--But I begin to suspect that as long as everyone outside of Gator Nation will see it that way (in fact that they'd somehow be "glad to get to THAT level") WILL be "good enough"--made HIM wealthy and go on to guarantee "almost as good" pay at the NEXT job, wherever/whatever it is. He's not alone in this (I mean, extreme example, look at ol' "Dazed Addazio" 's continued bumbling-but-well-rewarded post-Gator career!).
But we can't worry bout it. As I note as part of sum-up in that other post, it is time for US at least to begin to face the possibility of the same thing explaining what we experience RIGHT NOW with OUR team and program...That unless "things change quickly and mightily" here (and I mean clearly and steadily next few WEEKS), it will be time to "start the process".
Now, with all those guys gone (tho that very situation, and Mac's strangely, lackadaisically WEAK public response in explanation and attitude set things UP for all this), I really didn't expect to actually win that opener. Said as much in posts here leading up to game.
But HOW it played out was key. "Eye-opener", to say the least. I do NOT believe I am now "over-reacting outa the blue".
I feel as if I HAD been "bending over backward in generous hope and flexibility" up til now--and the veil has finally been ripped away.
"You had a chance to get us on track, Mac: This is your 3rd season; you and your coaches have had TIME to fix or replace all the things that were obviously broken, started us down a different road..."
"But all the Kings horse's and all the King's men, couldn't put..."
You'll note that little rhyme's in PAST tense. "Y'all haven't FIXED NUTHIN'! Looks like you stomped all over those pieces, if anything made it worse."
I don't know for sure, but I think most have the same feeling I do about it:
We have wasted TIME. We seem to be bout where we were when this Coach got here--if we're LUCKY. Even that COACH is hoping "his" D will do enough to maybe compete in the (presently depressed) SEC East, so he can keep self-defensively pointing to that, implying we are somehow ingrates for not appreciating. Like I say, that might get him his NEXT job, but never was or IS good enough here.

I think it's too soon depending on the rest of the season.
To some extent, yes--but NOT "rest of the season". No, the nature of the loss, and the way it actually played out, showed enough of the kind of STALL we seem to be frozen in, that we are NO FURTHER EVOLVED, are AT BEST right about where we were when this Head Coach was brought in to FIX exactly what is still seemimgly JUST AS BROKE (I mean, we still have no O-line to speak of, spoiled skill players are still screwing themselves and the whole team, supposedly "hugely promising" QB prospects are still disappontingly undeveloped under this supposed "offensive-" and "QB-Guru", and the only reason we were in it for 3 quarters is because the DEFENSE is making big plays, scoring our TDs...SOS: Same Old Shit...)--
It will have to change a whole lot, soon and for the rest of this season, or we SHOULD be in "NEXT!" mode before then
Far as I'm concerned, there are already "key people behind the scene" who must be quietly making-a-list already. If the fuse ain't lit, charge is planted and button wired up.

Imo I would rather have Charlie. He was never gonna succeed at Texas cause they didn't want him ,but look what he did at Louisville. He's a good disciplinary coach also.
Yes--Among the "bigger names" out there I was thinking about Charlie too--but more along lines of "Well, good choice or bad in either case, UF or USF, he has made his choice and will have to privately wrestle with the 'might have beens' for now..."
I suppose ANYTHING is possible with the kind of money WE could throw around, not to mention his history with us AND Fla. in general. But when he settled so quickly for a "big pond to small" switch, he more or less devalued his own stature, at least for the time being. Not his fault, given the way he was stupidly, unfairly treated here in and AT Texas, but all in all, he would have to now succeed in the way he did at Louisville down there at USF in order to raise himself back to that level of stature and widespread job-access, I think.
Anyway, imo, there are all kinds of reasons we'd be wise to somehow gamble on someone in that rare "may be just ABOUT to break out upon given his first challenge at the highest levels" category, if we were to make the move anytime soon.
Unless things came to the fore that aren't evident now, and/or we were ready to throw unprecedented amounts of money at someone we are presently assuming is solidly entrenched in inarguable success and apparent happiness where they are, (and I don't see Saban suddenly coming to Gainesville to live and Coach, nor someone similarly successful from the pro game lured away, etc...LOL). And FORGET Miles. Please. That isn't anything LIKE "a good fit"!
No, there are multiple pitfalls (in some cases MINE FIELDS) inherent in most of the "already famous"/"successful elsewhere in the past" that come to mind. And SS just isn't coming back--not to coach.
I'd rather have CHARLIE than any of the others mentioned, but as I say, I just don't see that as likely at the moment...If we DON'T make a move, or we do but it doesn't work out, he is still a young man and I could see the situation changing a couple/few years hence, but...
BUT: Who does that leave? Who might BE the hidden gem that we are first to recognize and elevate? Or the brilliant "won't leave his presently great circumstances" we somehow shockingly snag after all?
BUT I sure as hell HOPE the Gator braintrust is already considering and investigating all this and more behind the scenes RIGHT NOW!

...You know, I didn't really focus on "Chip Kelly" entry on that list when I first read it...and the more I do think about it, the more intriguing it becomes.
Think we could get him? Still lean towards some "young up'n'comer ready to BREAK OUT", but I also recognize that so far it's just an "UNrecognized fantasy"--one so far without an actual face.
Among interesting guys who actually exist and might just be "the right guy at the right time", Kelly could possibly fit the bill.

Justin Fuente has tech rolling, he would be great!
...and yes, Fuente is possibly ANOTHER one. In fact, he might be an actual candidate for that OTHER list, the guy we'd be "first to elevate" to the "big money BIGTIME".
Gotta start a quiet DEEP analysis of who he is, what he's done and where he's headed. He may well be exactly the kind of man I feel would be worth the large gamble on the largest stage.

Repeating the same from my other posts: this staff has to go, and the new guy has to build from scratch.

Jeff Brohm would bring a fresh, new look to Florida. No more Nick Saban retreads. Remember that Saban is 11-0 or 12-0 against his former assistants for a reason. Florida needs to stop trying to be the next Alabama and be the next Florida.

Charlie Strong is always welcome to return home to Hogtown. Then again, he deserves better than Florida.

Scott Frost of UCF has done well just down the road in Orlando. He certainly knows how to recruit central Florida, and he would bring a different, non-Saban look to Florida. He would need to find himself a good defensive coordinator in order to make me excited.

Troy Calhoun of Air Force Academy would be a good choice for a disciplinarian with an NFL background.

Philip Montgomery of Tulsa and Frank Wilson of UT San Antonio are in my next tier of up and coming coaches to bank on.

Not sure I totally go with EVERYTHING you suggest here, E--but will take a closer look at ALL you say AND the guys you mention. Some, admittedly, I HAVEN'T given much thought or attention to before now--BUT I LOVE the attitude and overall tone and approach, and totally agree with your general, bottomline conclusion upfront: "Get away from the 'Saban retreads', get an up'n'coming New Guy with fire and vision, and START OVER. From the bottom up." Seems more and more clear: Only way back.
