I still think Meyer deserve one more year

Have we all forgotten Meyer brought us back from the Zook years to lead the Gators to two titles and a game and possibly a player's bad decision away from a third title and we're talking about firing him? I say keep him one year with a new OC and possibly new DC. Hey UT give Phil Fulmer a pass in the 2005 season and Tuberville got screwed after bad season in 2008 in Auburn.

Again: with that conditional "half-measure", ie. getting Addazio out of there and bringing in a new, hot young innovator at OC, agreed. One more year. But NOT "no matter what, even if he changes nothing, just because he's Urban Meyer". Sorry. NO ONE IS BIGGER THAN THE PROGRAM. Not even the Head Coach. Not even when he's named after a pope.

I agree. This could be one bad season that sets up another 3 or 4 years of dominance. Don't know. I do know that I'm tired of watching a predictable offense run by a quaterback that plays like he doesn't care.
Save the head coach for another year, but GET RID OF ADDAZIO and let him take brantley with him.

Everyone is talking about Urban's two national championships, so gets this year to screw up using the Tim Tebow card. Next year, we lose that excuse. Also, we have two more games to measure how much we suck. If we end up losing to Appalachia and SOW, then 6-6 is worse than any Zook year.

Modern Pre-Spurrier Era
1987 (6-6)
1986 (6-5)
1981 (7-5)
1988 (7-5)
1989 (7-5)

Zook Era
2002 (8-5)
2003 (8-5)
2004 (7-5)

Meyer Era
2010 (7-5, 6-6)?

Yeah, it sucks to be mediocre again. Foley won't fire Urban until he sees a repeat of our suckiness next year. By then, we will either be in a 4-year hole or waiting for the next Tim Tebow.

Escambia, you forgot the 0-10-1 season of 1979 and yes recruiting will take a hit.

I was going for the modern era, where modern means "I can remember it". I can remember 1979, but barely, and mostly by watching my uncle.

I know recruiting will take a hit--DRU2012 explained it better than I could. That's what I call the four-year hole. Two years of bad football = at least twice as long as that to fix it, unless a once-in-a-generation player like Tebow comes along.

there is no way urban meyer deserves to be fired. yes this year has been bad but in 5 seasons hes won 2 national titles, 2 sec titles, had a heisman winner, and a 13-1 season with a sugar bowl win. if they did fire him who would they get thats better? im not opposed to making some other coaching changes but meyer definitely deserves to stay.

Maybe there is a 4-3-2 pattern of sucky seasons before a coach is fired:
Galen Hall had 4 crappy seasons from 1986-1989. Zook had 3 bad years from 2002-2004, and Meyer has 2010-2011. Whomever follows may only get one shot.

OK, we've all woken up with our respective hangovers--and I'm not talking (only) about the booze...
Some of you may not be familiar with the context of this discussion, how far most of us have come, have been DRIVEN by the stubbornness and ineptitude we see in the COACHING this season, but in fact, I think our regulars are (if anything) bending over backwards to be "fair".
So I guess I'll be the "voice of last night"--"Mr. Negative" once again:
Do you not recall HOW PUTRID WE WERE LAST NIGHT, in every phase of the game (EXCEPT KO returns, which we had WAY too many opportunities to demonstrate, BTW)???
It really WAS the worst game I can recall a Gator offense playing in MORE THAN 30 YEARS.
Look, I don't CARE what the TV-guys think of us, but when THOSE meally-mouthed lunk-heads start using words like "lost", "inept", "in crisis" and "sinking like a stone" to describe a team AND coach who (as some here keep hammering on) "just came off a 13-1 season and 2 championships in 3 years just before THAT", it is NOT because "they are out to get us" (well, not JUST because of that).
No, it's because it is so damn obvious even they get it, and so far gone at this point that even they feel safe in pointing it out on-the-air. It is time, PAST time to begin considering "What needs to happen next?"...
I am serious about this: Neither we (the fans) nor they (the "powers-that-be") can stick our heads in the sand and "wait and see what happens". It's time for us to begin to apply pressure for change, in SOME form; Foley and/or the "folks-that-have-Foley's-ear" need to be clear regarding the depth and breadth of feeling about this out here in Gator-Nation.
It's not just about "venting" anymore. It's about raising our voices for CHANGE. In the end, the whole damn "thing" rests on the fans, as much as anything or anyone else. Tickets, tuition, T-shirts, travel plans, stadiums, advertising, the "Gator Brand", donations, high-level bragging rights--the list of what's-at-stake here goes on and on. You think this might MEAN something to those power-brokers I mentioned?

Meyer doesn't get just one mulligan season. He'll have to have three bad seasons in a row to get fired. Foley knows that he can't fire Meyer until there is absolutely nobody left to defend him. He's afraid that he won't be able to find a coach to replace Meyer. Coaches will be worried that if they come to UF they better win a BCS bowl game every season or lose their job. That's more pressure than most folks want.

according to this website Florida Gators make Urban Meyer highest paid in SEC with 6-year, $24 million deal - ESPN he better be doing his damndest to win that bcs every friggin year! and keeping addazio as OC and brantley as QB is not doing that obviously.

I look over at Mack Brown of Texas and Bobby Stoops of Oklahoma and remember that I need to try to look at NCAA in its entirety. Those guys also get paid a lotta money, but are not expected to win the BCS every year. We got lucky with Timmy. Not Harvin. Timmy. Harvin definitely helped, but we will see more Harvins or close facsimiles to him in our lifetimes. We will probably not see another Tebow in our lifetimess. With a guy like that on your team, you can almost expect an Urban Meyer team to win the SEC every year. Without a Tebow, we should be more reasonable and hope for two good years from a recruiting class, with two SEC Easts and maybe an SEC championship for each class in four years.

Mack Brown and Bobby Stoops get paid about the same and are not expected to win the BCS every year, but in a four year span they are expected to make two to three good runs at it.

Yeah, but it's weird here in Longhorn Land: they have high expectations, but this "Head-Coach-As-God-Who-Can-Do-No-Wrong"-thing is even more extreme, more rabid. You are just not allowed to say ANYTHING against that slick, fork-tongued-self-promoter (he'd make the scariest used car salesman you ever came across, don't ya think?). Now, they've been saying everything else about Greg Davis that Gators have been saying about THEIR OC, and it didn't just start this season. It HAS reached a new level of vitriol now, though--but they can't and won't hold Mack responsible for ANY of it. Some folks call that "admirable loyalty", but hey, I figure at those salaries, with that many people investing money, time and (most importantly) trust and feeling into the program that they are responsible for, they shouldn't get an unquestioned, ENDLESS pass.
Where and when DOES it "end"? Well, it obviously varies from fan base to fan base, program to program.
I don't care about "the other guys", I just care about what happens with our Gators, and here's my theory:
Urban Meyer got away with "one bad year" LAST year, thanks to Tebow, who bailed EVERYONE out (and hid a lot of these problems we're seeing now for most of the season), Meyer and Addazio most of all. THEN there was Meyer's "breakdown", flip/flop, drama-turn, whatever you want to call it, which has GOT to be counted as burning another year. Now there's THIS year. To me, that's THREE years, and THAT'S ENOUGH.
Don't agree? OK, I'll listen. A lot of you folks seem to feel he's got another year coming after this one, if he wants it, although most have some qualifications with that ("Fire Addazio--or at least demote him back to the O-line" seems to be one of those, across-the-board). Fine; I think it may be a mistake, but I can't see how it goes any other way unless he resigns, so I accept it and hope like HELL we get that one "condition" fulfilled. But understand exactly what you have magnanimously given the man--ie. the same benefit of the doubt as saying when the time comes, "Coach, you had 4 years to get it fixed and turned around; it's time for a change."

How's things in Texas because one more loss and their not going to a bowl game.

Texas is not on anyone's projected bowl game schedule. The Gators can theoretically lose the next two and land a low-level bowl game just because the fans historically travel and support whatever bowl they get.)

You think Meyer deserves another year? Huh?

I'd take ANOTHER 2 seasons like this one before I even CONSIDERED firing Meyer.
